10,000 RPM peripheral port on the track

I saw that video- very cool car!

I have to wonder though how reliable and lap worthy a decent size turbo like EFR 8374/T04Z at 275rwhp could be versus revving the NA rotary to 10,000rpm for that power.

You should be able to run bigger turbo on stock engine, stock or ROM tuned ECU and stock fuel system at 6psi boost and 8,000rpm and make over 100ftlbs more torque than the NA engine (250ftlbs vs 150ftlbs).

Would need a nice big V-mount IC/radiator to keep the temps in check.

Wouldn't need a close ratio transmission though.

I think people want to rev to 10,000 RPM just to hit that magic number. It looks like the team knows what they're doing, so I'm hoping the engine will hold up to regular track use.

Of course, a single turbo FD would have more torque – I was surprised when I got farther into the video because I just assumed it would be a naturally aspirated 20B build. Way to be different!

I'll ask the guys for more build details if I see them around at the local meets or at the track.

A huge turbo low boost full peripheral port

or

A tiny peripheral port (semi) with a medium turbo

As the test driver noted...definitely needs some transmission work; it does no good to have an engine like that, but it isn't able to work in the rpm it needs to. At only 275 hp and...what torque? Maybe 220 ft./lbs?..you've got to keep that thing revved to make it work.


I certainly am not trying to take anything away from what they've done, that's pretty damned cool all in all. And once they've tweaked it all, I imagine that will be a very competitive track car.

No no no, more like around 150ftlbs torque.

If peak HP of 275 was done at 10,000rpm that would be 144ftlbs at 10,000rpm.

Still, as pointed out with the right gearing the high rpm really increases torque at the wheels when coupled with the right close gear ratios.

Anniversary Racing Factory in Japan specializes in NA rotary and has updated their dyno page.

Their new king is 350rwhp down at like 8,700rpm which is like 212ftlbs.

That is crazy good torque for NA rotary.
