Question about boost w/ aftermarket ECU
 

I have an intake, DP, Cat-back. I don't have a boost controller in yet. I installed a g-force ecu today that is programmed for one bar of boost and the max boost I get is about 11 PSI which is the same that I was getting with my stock ECU. Is this normal since I still have the stock boost pills ant stuff or is something wrong?

You don't have enough fuel to use more than 14.7 or 1 bar of boost. You have to use a boost controller or pills to set 2nd turbo boost levels.

When it says it's programmed for 1 bar, that means that it has fuel maps that can handle that much boost without running lean. If you want to raise boost, you need a boost controller. But I'd stick to 11psi with what you're running.

Thats cool. I was planning on leaving it in the 10-11PSI range until I can get a FMIC. I just thought that programmed means It was gonna automatically hit 1 bar and I would need a boost controller to drop it down.

Hey Zoomspeed...I also have a G-Force ECU with street ported motor, Dp, cb, RB inlet duct (cold air soon) and my car had the same boost pattern until I got a boost controller. Get the dawes Boost controller that sells for $35. I am running a 12-10-12 boost pattern. It is the best manual controller as it holds the desired psi. all the way through unlike other valves that bleed off boost. check them out at www.dawesdevices.com BTW, what does your ECU look like? Is there a G-Force sticker on the box itself or does it look exactly like your original stock ecu?? Also, have you checked the #'s on the chip inside to make sure it's really a G-Force ECU?? Let me know and set that boost to 12psi...you WILL definitely feel a difference in power!! ;)

BTW, did you notice an increase in power even staying at stock boost levels as I did when I installed my G-Force just last week??

Got a dawes boost controller sitting on my desk right now. I'm gonna install it in a few day. I did feel a difference right when I put it in.

How do I check if its a g-force? The one I have dosn't have a g-force sticker on it but it dosn't have a mazda sticker on it either. It two stickers on it. One has a bunch of numbers on it and it says denso at the bottom of the sticker. The other one is just a small sticker that says "for off road use only"

Get a good Electronic boost controller. With a manual BC you are just bleeding off the wastegate line. The wastegate will still start to open prematurly to get to your desired boost level.

With a Electronic boost controller you will get better spool up because an Electronic BC will not open the WG till the last moment. If you want better performance out of your car then you should get an EBC.

Actually the Dawes works that way. It is NOT a needle valve slowly dumping pressure. It's a pressure controlled device(ball and spring) and works great. Right Ted?

Skoobahead is absolutely right. The dawes controller acts like an electronic boost controller in that it waits to reach the desired boost before it opens the wastegate. However with an electronic controller you can get an even boost across the board if desired. But, it's also about $450 more expensive than the dawes. I am totally satisfied with the dawes controller. ;)
