Which mods are the RELIABILTY mods??
 

I keep hearing people talking about installing the "reliability" mods but I have never figured out exactly what they are. Can anybody tell me? Thanks

Replacing you`r vac lines
Replacing you`r plastic AST bottle
Cooling fan switch modification
Replace you`r stock fan temp. switch with a Miata switch
Anything you can do to cool under hood temps. and keep you`r eng. cooler.
Like getting bigger radiator, larger intercooler, wrapping you`r down pipe, cold air box
Adding 2 cycle oil to you`r gas

I`m sure someone will be along in a min. to add to this list.

So we are mainly trying to keep the engine cooler??? Anybody ever try Waterwetter by Redline??

About the Miata switch how accurate is it, does it turn on exactaly at 207F I read there not acurate

Well as for my mods I wouldnt get a larger intercooler as a reliability mod cause of the inherent boost increase. But it is a good mod anyway.
And yea people use water-wetter, but it doesnt cure all the heat-issues of the car.
And to add to the list an aftermarket CF hood with vents should help, although I dont have one myself.

Installing a downpipe will both increase reliability by droping the under hood temps and reducing restriction on the turbos (so they are not as hot) and increase Hp a little bit (like maybe 10 hp).

Some people also run the higher temp termostat but I'm still out on that one.

Running 50/50 collant mix instead of 70/30 (coolant/water) will improve the colling system effiency.

When you think about it, a vented hood is a GREAT reliability mod. Heat rises, and you'd think that a lot of it would get trapped under a solid hood. Install a vented hood, and that problem is solved. Cool air circulating through your engine bay at all times... I can't think of anything more effective at cooling. :cool:

Second on that! Also an extra oil cooler. Heat kills everything over time, and each step you do to reduce heat helps dramatically.:cool:

Has anyone ever put together their own twin oilcoolers ie Mocal.
Anyone have a link of a write up on a home page or somthing. I think that is my next project, I guess because I don't have $850 to buy one for one from CWR :)

Has anyone ever heard of the "RATSNEST" Its somewhere in your FD where all the wires are smooshed together ?!?! And its suppose to be better if you seperate the wires cause some of the wires energy is getting splashed into some other wires, which is not good. I think Ivan was the guy in Cali that everybody was going to for that ?!? 1FOOKINTITEFD on the forum had it done from Ivan, It suppose to be a reliability mod ?!?

I'd say a turbo timer is a good reliability mod as well.

Also don't forget to check and see if the recalls have been performed..

I have never measured the exact temp the Miata swich comes on. But it does come on before 210 deg.. And I see no reason for it to be any more unreliable than a RX7 switch.
