Same thing happened to my brother's FD. Only his took out his whole ECU (PFC). $800 and hours of rewiring later his car runs again. Seems this happens more often now.

BTW, why are you running a 3bar map at 350rwhp?

turbojeff 07-08-04 12:52 AM

The car put down 386 rwhp last year on stock twins, 17-18psi boost. This year it has been retuned to give more low end power and it lost a little top end, actually it was 347rwhp.

The stock turbos have been replaced with some upgraded twins but it has not been to the dyno since. The car is an nationally competitive auto-x car so it's got to have twins.

is this your car? I'd like to see it the next time you race it. I'm actually thinking of taking my FD out to an auto-x event sometime soon. The only suspension mods I have right now are HKS Hipermax2 coilovers. I plan on getting a set of sways and maybe a new set of wheels/tires. Maybe I'll see you:)

turbojeff 07-08-04 09:32 AM

No this isn't my car, it is considerably more modded than mine. Although mine has beaten it before;).

You don't need suspension mods to compete in auto-x, actually they are about the last thing you need. The FD kicked ass in Super Stock for years before the Z06 came out, no suspension mods allowed there.

a guy at my work, use to win SS in the ATL region until the Z06 came around...now he wants to sell his 30k mi CYM and get a Z06 or the C-6 Z series...whenever that comes around.

Jeff,

Get together with Batman on this issue - he's had experience in that department (the harness on left side excessive rubbing).

One of the issues is that the clips which secure it give way and allow it to drop down more than it should. There are plenty of ways to alleviate it though.

clayne 07-08-04 12:22 PM

Without checking my elec. diagrams, I could be wrong. But that set of wires looks ignition related (specifically because they're shielded). Search for posts by Chuck Westbrook - as he had information on how to run that particular set of wires in a more direct fashion that makes more sense anyways (this may also save you having to yank the entire thing out and repair it).

turbojeff 07-08-04 12:47 PM

Well the factory harness retaining clips weren't clipped in to the body, so I clipped them in and then used tie wraps to hold it up very securely to the body and off the tire.

I'll take the car for a drive tonight with the stock MAP and ECU to try and avoid cooking another 3 bar MAP sensor, it tends to get expensive:(. I'll try to make a bunch of right hand turns also.

I have a stock front harness for a FD that I took some insulation off of to look at. It seems there is a shielded wire set leaving from the "branch" of the harness that comes from the MAP sensor also.

Page F-240 (241 in the PDF):

B/LG shielded going into pressure sensor which then somehow gets involved with the coil / igniter funhouse on page F-238 (239).

Thanks for the link, I checked on my own copy of the manual just in case.

I took the car for about a 10 mile drive this afternoon with the stock MAP and ECU, ran fine and didn't quit during any right hand turns.

The new 3 bar MAP comes in tomorrow, lets hope that was it or that'll be another $214 (includes overnight shipping) in the can.

Hey Jeff - You tuning this up for a friend? I'm in town tomorrow. Let me know when your home, I'd like to swing by and take a look at this beast (if that's alright with you).

Richard.

Sure, come by and look, give me a call first to make sure everything is cool w/the wife. It is pretty much pure race car, nothing shiney or pretty about it.

Sonny 07-09-04 01:06 AM

Jeff,

Is there a reason that you can't use the GM 3 bar MAP sensor? They can be had new for about 100 bucks. I guess when things go right, you shouldn't have to worry about killing MAP sensors, but having spares would certainly be cheaper.

Sonny,

It isn't my car, I'm just replacing/repairing the system as it is.

$100 vs $180 what's the difference;).
