Help with tire choices
 

Ok, need some advice guys.

I'm looking at three different tires in 245/45 for the stock rims.

(1) Potenza S02 pole position for $151 a tire

(2) Yokohama AVS sport for $172 a tire

(3) g-force KDW for $124 a tire

The car is a daily driver in TX, so I do a little driving in the rain, not much. If the tires last 12k miles I'll be happy. I want *traction*...I'm spinning my tires way too much, and the midpipe and IC probably won't help :).

I'm leaning towards the S02s...

Go with either 1 or 2... either way i think that you will be happy.... i think 2 is a new tire.... but hell, as often as we need them, who cares ... :dragster:

I know this was not on your list, but I put a set of Kuhmo Supra 712's on my car. 245/45's and they are wonderful.

S02 is an awesome tire. The AVS sport is right behind it. The Only G-force that I think is as good is the G-force KD not the KDW or KDS. But not as good a rain tire as the S02 or AVS sport. Also the S03 is out now. It has a little more treadwear and I have no idea how it compares to the S02. If you can get the Pole positions in that size buy them.

none. go with Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's. there must be a reason why they are used as oem on Ferraris, Porsches, Jaguars, Bentleys (i think), Lamborghinis, Paganis, and Austin Martins.

My advice...I think SO2's & 3's are nice and all. but I went with Pirelli P- Zeros from the Tire Rack. At the time mine were $124 for the fronts and $141 for the rears. I strongly suggest the set up I have (see mod list below for sizes). Sure you can't rotate, but strangly enough, I haven't had the need to rotate. My tires are all wearing the same! But I'm not a burn out king either, I respect my rear end. Plus when you put a little wider in the back , you have much more oversteer control. And its looks sweet too. Mine sticks nice in the turns, its hard to to get the back end loose.....well it' never really that hard to get the back loose though... :D

I found them very respectable on the rain, it was a toss up between SO2's pole's and P-Zeros. Pricewise...P-Zero's won.

Of course, that was three years and 12,000 mile ago too. Maybe prices have changed. Either tire you go with, consider the size set up I have.

Both 1 and 3 are good deals right now. The KDW is normally 135 and it comes with the g-tech for free. The S-02s are more too but I don't know by how much. Maybe 170. I'm not sure if cost is a concern but I just did a bunch of research and found the SZ50 Firestones to be a great buy. I found nothing but good reviews on them and from what I have read no tire can beat them in the wet. Dry traction isn't going to be as good as the other tires you listed though. However they are only 73 a tire for the 225/50 size right now. (Discontinued tire, was about $140 I think. Replaced by the SZ50 EP with a higher wear rating.) From my research I made a little tire page on my site. Check it out:) I don't really try to say "this tire is better than that one" though. What I do is provide ideas on how to sort through info like what you are reading above. I provide links to survey sites and a little price form. Personally I just bought the Firestones. At first I though "Firestones? Don't they suck?" But after reading so much good stuff about them and the price I figured even if the traction is 85% as good as say the S-02s I can buy an adjustable sway bar with the money I saved and still be better off!

I was about to say the same thing ... if you're considering the AVS Sports then ante up and get Pirelli PZero Asimmetricos ... I had a brand new set on my car before it got stripped by that fucking shop. Well HOLY SHIT! I was just looking at pricing, they've come down over the years! That's what I'm talking about baby! ... Mine got gaffled. :(

P-zeros are nice tires but I think the reason some european cars come with them is that they are european made tires. The Twin Turbo 911 came with S02's for anyone keeping track.
