fuel pump swap
 

Last night I decided to go ahead and install the denso fuel pump that I had bought from the rx7store. Well here is my write up on the install for future reference if anyone needs some help. It was pretty straight forward once you get in there...here goes:

1. Remove the carpet in the rear (if you have bose I think you have to remove the wave tube but I am not sure because I don't have it).
2. You should see a silver metal cover to the drivers side (US spec) with 4 screw holding it on. Remove those 4 screws and lift up a little on the cover.
3. The cover will not come off because of 2 wires. First unclip the big one and then unbolt the other.
4. Now you can slide the cover out of the way. You should see a few rubber lines running around in there now. There are 2 bolts to remove, remove them.
5. Move the clips back on the 2 lines that run into the middle and push the lines off. (It helps to use a pair of pliers to wiggle them to break them loose. Also have a rag to catch some of the fuel in those lines.)
6. Move the clip back on the line closest to the front passenger side and slide back the line.
7. There are a bunch (don't know exact number) of little screws holding down the cover to the fuel tank. Remove these screws.
8. Push the lines out of the way so you can lift up on the cover.
9. Pull the cover up, fuel pump attached. Be careful when pulling it out.
10. Remove the 2 bolts that hold on the + and - terminals. One is 7mm and the other is 8mm I believe.
11. Remove the screw holding the bottom support and remove from the assembly.
12. Unclip the filter bag (I think that is what that is) and clip it on the new pump.
13. Remove the old pump and plug in the new pump.
14. Hook up the + and - terminals (you really can't mess them up because they are different sizes).
15. Screw the bottom support back on and drop into fuel tank.
16. Screw down the cover to the fuel tank, hook up the lines, put the bolts back in, clip up the electrical connections, and put the silver cover back on and put in the 4 screws that hold it down.
17. Drink a beer and enjoy your new fuel pump :D
