Does the FD Touring have sunroof or moonroof

The topic says it all

Mine has moonroof. I had another 94 (wrecked) with a sunroof.
So......I guess both ;)

artguy 08-15-01 12:29 AM

mine has a moonroof

martini 08-15-01 12:41 AM

everyone seems to have a different definition to the words moonroof and sunroof. Originally, I think it had to do with the direction it opened. Which would make all the 3rd gens sunroofs..but since then, I think it has come to more of the material (glass or metal). So the 93s had the metals ones, and the 94-95s had the glass ones (right?) Which would mean the 93s had the sunroofs, and the 94-95s had the moonroofs..

whatever you want to call it.

I also thought that moonroofs were more of a skinnier rectangle as far as size from front to back goes while sunroofs took up more of the surface area of the roof.

Zoomspeed 08-15-01 01:15 AM

well, I have a metal sun/moon/whatever the hell it is roof

toppdogg_1 08-15-01 02:39 AM

I though sunroofs only opened up one way, (sliding all the way back) and moonroofs Slide all the way back or can be tilted so that only the back end raises up.

i've had two 3rd gens, the first was a 94 peg (or pep or whatever)and it had a sunroof. to me a sunroof slides all the way back and its not see thru.
now i have a 94 touring and it has the glass moonroof. to me its a moonroof because its glass. dunno.
why don't we just call em a soonroof?

Trout 08-15-01 02:02 PM

I have a 94 Touring with a glass roof. From what I've heard and seen, only 94 Touring has a glass roof. A 94 PEP and all 93's and 95's had a steel roof panel.

ivanuscg 08-15-01 06:22 PM

I agree with Trout... I have a 94' touring and it has the glass sun/moon roof. I've seen 95's and they had steel. Also I've never heard of a 93 with glass. But I do think they consider a moonroof glass. Because (this may sound stupid) but if ya kinda think about it a sunroof will only have sun shine though when opened, but a moonroof ............well nevermind....doesn't make much sense. Haa haa

broke_mofo 08-15-01 07:08 PM

see through = moonroof

everythign else = sunroof

ejmack1 08-15-01 07:55 PM

how hard to change from a sunrooof to a moon roof????

Then why do 2nd. gen. eclipses have sliding sunroofs that are made out of glass?

martini 08-16-01 03:28 AM

listen..everyone has a different definition.

I don't imagine the glass roofs on the FD would have the double bubble top curve to it..do they?

airborne 08-16-01 07:27 AM

yep

What is the difference between a sunroof and a moonroof?

Sunroof is the generic term used to describe an operable panel in a vehicle roof which can let in light and/or air. Moonroof is a term created by Ford in the 70's, yet is now used generically to describe glass panel inbuilt electric sunroofs.

Glass... Moonroof, Steel... Sunroof. I have the Glass moonroof on my 94 Touring. I love the look of it.

yeah, I can search google too. and find quite a few sites that say the difference is how the open up..

the fact is. originally, that was correct. but now, under a pile of marketing brouchures, the term has changed. And now there is no definitive difference.

I guess I have a moonroof in my HOUSE! ha ha

I do like the moonroof better bc I can look up and see the sky and let the light in without opening it. I don't have any roof on my base but I'll settle for the added chasis strength I guess.

A few people changed the metal roof to the glass roof. I assume it's not too hard if you can get a nice glass piece used.

I thought 93 was the only year for touring...thinking the rest are P.E.P.'s
but since I have a 93 my mind tends to stop there.
