Dented "crank" angle sensor

5 Attachment(s)
In the process of re-assembling my motor I noticed that my upper most crank angle sensor was dented. I don't know if the previous owner dented it, or it got dented some how when I removed the engine. Would this dent cause the sensor to get improper readings? Is there any way to test the sensor? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Considering they're probably not THAT hard to find a good one used, I'd just replace it. Those sensors typically don't get damaged that often, and they're pretty hardy - I would reckon there's quite a few guys with boxes of them. Heck I used to have about 10 2nd gen CAS's around the garage :).

BTW, is that your motor in the pics? That's SUPER clean!

Replace it!

Crank Angle Sensor is an important part on the motor
effects the timing so I would replace it, just to be safe.

Just my $.002!

A little dent, itself, likely wouldn't affect the sensors function much as long as its internal coil face is intact. I'd worry more about the possible internal damage caused by the impact that caused the dent.

I bent my CAS while doing the same thing. I didnt notice and put the motor in the car. Drove great for a week or so and I went over a over-pass one day and my car went into "Limp mode" Scared the hell out of me. well THREE weeks later I found my CAS was cracked near the bottom. $100 something later i had a new one and it ran great again.
