best ic w/o battery relocation?

I don't think I want to have my battery take up one of my storage bins because I plan on having my friend customize my interior (I'll need the extra space), so what would be the best intercooler that would fit without moving the battery, if any?

I have a FMIC that is posted on the for sale section. Check it out. It will not fit with your stock air box though

Sorry to mislead you, but I'm just getting a feel for what's out there right now. I'm trying to plan out all the stuff I'm going to do to my FD and I want to know about my choices. I'll still check your ic out though. :)

William's Tuning's FMIC does not require relocation of the batttery (stock size is fine) or of the radiator and the A/C plumbing.

The PFS set up is a 'straight' drop in as well, but is SMIC.

hks kit

hks has one that has a 12"x24" core (that is the size of GTR intercoolers). you have to reposition the radiator and use a smaller battery but it is still in the factory position

M2 medium

Goblin 07-31-01 12:36 PM

I'll second that. M2 Medium is a bad ass IC. You'll need a solution for the AST, though (remove it).

SPOautos 07-31-01 01:09 PM

My SMIC!!!!:D Its the size of the M2 med but mounts at a angle so that it works with almost any pipe configuration. Stock battery stays. I also include a bracket to relocate the AST. Its a Spearco core like all the other good IC use. Email me at SJWhite2000@aol.com if you want some more info on it. There is a group buy going on for $1100 including shipping. This includes the IC, air duct, pipes, mounting brackts and everything. Very sharp looking kit

I cant say to much about it on the forum so drop me a email for some info....I'm sure you'll like it

i use apex-i's FMIC. it required a smaller battery..but not too tuff of a job at all...but it also isn't just a drop down...it requires some cutting and moving the radiator, but well worth it...I LOVE THE LOOK OF THE FMIC!!!!! oh yeah...the blue pipes that come with it ARE GAY :gay:

mpetersrx7 07-31-01 01:44 PM

I will agree that SPOautos design is very nice. He has pictures of it installed. It is at an angle like CWR, but does not require battery relocation, AST elimination, nor Greddy Elbow. You could also use the efini y-pipe with it.

The M2 medium is also very nice, but requires removal of all the above which gets more expensive. $1500 + AST elimination (~$50 or custom relocation) + greddy elbow (~$150).

My 0.02

If your looking for personal preference, I prefer the M2. That's just because I didn't want to relocate the battery.

got my M2 medium with the Greddy elbow for $1390 (group buy)incl ship...it's a great kit and I think I can safely say it delivers 90% of the perfromance of a FMIC or M2 large for any street application (testing by sport compact car has shown this) with ALOT less install hassle and you don't block off the radiator to air flow

all the same, for the price break I go jump on SPOs IC, except for the fact that I hate the looks of that cheap ass stock plastic elbow...ughhh....there shouldn't be ANY plastic piping associated with a high temperature application like an intercooler!!!!

If you IC is doing its job the stock plastic elbow wont be in a "high temperature application" The elbow is on the output side of the IC and shouldt be much hotter than ambient temps.

Also, the pipe kit doesnt require the use of the stock pipes, you can use the Efini Y with the crossover pipe replacement, and he Greddy ebow.....or the stock pipes!!!! You can use ANY pipes configuration you want!!! I give people the option of getting differenct setups depending on how much $$$ they want to spend. Someone thats already strapped to come up with the $1100 doesnt want to fork out the extra 125 or so for the elbow, which is for the most part cosmetic when running the stock turbos.

If youd like some pics shoot me a email

Well, I guess it's between SPO's SMIC and M2 FMIC. Oh no!!!!! Not FMIC vs. SMIC again!!!! Shouldn't have asked in the first place!!!

Blitz FMIC

The Blitz FMIC will work without relocating the battery. You will need a smaller battery, though. I used a Mazda Miata battery.
