Altitude sucking HP??hmmm
 

Can anyone tell me how much hp I might loose by living in the mile high city of Denver??

I know that the air is less dense and therefore less turbo "jack" but what about when its cold here and that means more dense air and more "jack"...

any thoughts?:p

I'll have to say that I don't know "Jack" about it. I'll give it a guess though. How about 2.5 HP/1Kft

I live in Denver. I've got a 94 RX-7 (bought it about a month ago). I've also got a 87 Buick Grand National that I brought here when I moved from the East coast.

After moving here, I noticed a significant power drop in my GN. I got out my old Aeronautics 101 text book and looked up the formula for air density vs altitude. If my math's right, the air at 6000 ft is about 85% the density as it is at sea level.

My GN sure feels like it lost 15% power - but it also gets 15% better mileage.

Never had my RX-7 at lower altitude, so can't say how it may be affected.

I went from sealevel to mile high and noticed a min amount of drop in HP but the real killer was hot days. During the occasional winter drive (sunny days) I would notice a tremendous increase in HP. I have driven over the continental divide and even though there was a HP drop it was not nearly as significant....therefore I am assuming that even though the altitude decreases the density of the air it must be compensated by the cold air....
