Yet another Idle Question
 

Hello everyone Im new to Rotaries. I just bought a 1986 rx7 se. The previous owner did a few mods on it but not much. There is a rebuilt engine in it with 80,000 miles on it. I havent been able to give it a full tune up yet but I will be doing that soon. My question is my car idles at about 1500 rpm when warm. Is this going to be a problem for me in the future. I spoke to a mechanic and he said its way to high and that overtime it would damage my engine. I didnt really trust the mechanic so I have brought my question to the Rotary community. If I leave the idle alone will cause harm to my engine ? If it needs to be adjusted how do i do it ?

PS I have an intake and the 5th/6th port have been removed the last owner claims that the ecu was reprogrammed and that the intakes have been port and polished. I cant really tell if the ecu was messed with or if the intakes have been p&ped or not.

High idle is no big deal, unless it bothers you.

Of course it could be set high to mask other problems.
Your tune up will tell for sure.

The high Idle will not "damage" your engine. If it was a piston engine it might wear it out sooner but rotaries don't mind it.

It shouldn't be to hard to fix though. First thing to check is for vaccum leaks, then the TB butterflies and throttle linkage.

THat 1500 RPM idle isnt right, and might hasten the wear of the motor. (notice I said MIGHT). Time for you to get acquainted with the idle section of the FSM. Available on www.FC3s.org

Section 4a or4b. IF the idle cant be adjusted down by normal means, report back!
