Yes, I want big Turbo

I'm contemplating getting a bigger turbo for my 7. I'm still in the process of breaking the engine in and only have about 500 miles in it and by next summer i want to got big. How big i dont' know. I was N/A and now just got to the turbo and i have been told to get a GT40, which is the standard turbo that mostly everyone gets. But what if i get a GT42 or a GT45? these are my mod

How much power do you want to make? Fundamentally, that's the first question you need to answer when looking for a turbo upgrade.

The GT40 is far from being a "standard". For one thing, a GT40R is about $2,000 for just the turbo on the retail market. It will do over 500 HP on a 13B.

i have heard of a few people running the gt35r. from what i heard it spools quickly and is capable of decent levels of boost, and it isn't that expensive. The gt40 sounds like overkill if the car will be streetable. There is always the option for a hybrid as well, if you are on a budget and aren't looking for like 400+ hp, or you don't want to run custom oil/coolant lines and exhaust.

What are you looking for drag? auto cross? streetable?and how much power you have to think about what you want. pick a turbo for what you want to use it for

I want to get 450 plust to the wheels on my 7. So once i break my engine, by next summer i want to get a bigger turbo, so i started researching... So by next summer i should be able to get the upgrade... I want it to be streetable... I want to get the right turbo... I was looking through ebay and there are some going for $300 and up...

So what do you guys think?

I would stay away from ebizzle while making your turbo purchase. For one, you don't know if you're getting genuine product (although a few ebay stores do offer actual Garrett and other brands, but you have to be very diligent) most will not back their product and you may not get warranty coverage should the need arise.

And thirdly, you won't need anytwhere NEAR a GT42 let alone 45R for 450hp. A T04-R or a GT40 would suit those needs just fine. GT45 if you're shooting for 700+ wheel.......

Even a GT35R streching its wings would come close or arrive at 450whp. I would recommend for someone like yourself to simply buy as complete a kit as possible. A place like A-spec can get you going with only VERY minimal fab and extra purchases to make. Plus, all of their stuff is garunteed and Sean stands behind it.

But yeah, refine your turbo search to something thats streetable/not an all out drag turbo.

Hot side is small for the turbo, I have a bigger one on my GT40R. Look into garrett turbos and something with a t6 exhaust housing. A GT40 will make 450 hp on pump gas, also learn how to read compressor maps. GT45's are as streetable as peripheral ports, 4 puck clutches and open downpipes.

That turbo is not a GT45. The GT45 is made by Garrett and is marked as such. It looks like this:

Notice the V-bands and machining differences? The turbo on eBay is a poorly made Chinese copy.

That said, you don't need a GT45 for 450RWHP. The GT40R will do it and remain fairly lag free on a street port but you will not see full boost before 4000 RPM.

There are variations on the GT35R that can make those power levels with less lag then the 40R on a street port, but the 35R variations will need more boost.

A-Spec makes a GT3574 kit that is supposed to get to those power levels around 16 PSI

The 40R has much more potential and will make far more power at lower boost but at the expense of lag with small ports.

Thanks for the info guys... Will do more research before doing the investment...
