WTF is wrong with my car damnit.

Ok, among all other problems, my car is being a fucking pos, when I am at WOT, at top of 3rd and on, it just starts to whine, and the turbo just dosn't seem to be building anymore boost at all. I can actually hear it whining. It makes a kinda high rumbling noise, it it really pissing me off, I just lost to a fucking 5.0 with header's and an intake! What the hell! I used to beat 5.0s all day long... even before my exhaust. WTF is going on!!! I think I am going to just get a S5 turbo/mani and hope for the best...

And no, sorry I don't have a boost guage, so I don't know exactly what is happening to the boost... also my idle get's funky sometimes... I don't think is a vac leak though, because the boost is strong all through 1st and 2nd gear. During 1st and 2nd gear i was just walking this mustang, shift to third, still beating him, top of 3rd and my turbo(i think) just shits!!

I can't wait till I get more cash to fix all this little crap that is pissing me off so much.

It sounds to me like either your turbo is starting to let go, or you've got something that's not quite tight enough. You build less boost in 1st and 2nd gears than you do in 3rd, and something might just be loose enough to open up a boost leak when you hit full boost. Either that or your turbo's worn out and is losing steam once it gets heated up.

Either way, I'd try to stay out of boost until you fix the problem. In the first case, too much overspinning of the turbo will make sure that the second case actually happens. :)

The guy I bought my car from said my turbo has an oil leak, and my car eats oil, but I looked to see if I got blue smoke under boosr, and had friends look in cars behind me while I was driving under boost and I saw nothing to tell me it did have an oil leak, but I am jus gonna get the S5 turbo/mani and hope for the best now, I just need to sell my other 7. Anyone wanna buy a wrecked fb with streetport/header's? will run... good compression barely any km's on rebuild!

blue smoke = gas
white smoke = oil

88IntegraLS 05-11-03 12:29 PM

I thought white smoke was water and black smoke was oil?

Its buring oil that gives you blue smoke and water that gives you white.:D :D

No7Yet 05-11-03 12:34 PM

Black is gas,
white is water,
blue is oil.

It's hard, at times, to see the difference between oil and water, since their colors are similar. The big clue is how long they hang around - oil smoke will hang in the air for a while, but water smoke tends to disperse pretty quickly.

Hmmm... ok, not that we have figured out which smoke is which... what do the rest of you guys think is wrong with my car.

No7Yet 05-11-03 02:21 PM

Like I said; it's either a big boost leak which is overspinning your turbo, or your turbo's bitten the dust.

Rx7Nub 05-11-03 03:01 PM

Yes, I think that is probably it, but I just wandered if anyone else had an opinion, to see if I had any other options. Thanks though :)

sonic7 05-11-03 03:14 PM

someone could have pood in your intake!!!

Rx7Nub 05-11-03 03:39 PM

Yes ...uhm, someone could have, but I am sure no one did... because I don't normally let people poo in my intake.

SonicRaT 05-11-03 03:41 PM

I'm willing to bet your turbo bearings are gone, but that's just me ;)

J-Rat 05-11-03 03:50 PM

OR, you could have the problem I did... The Twin scroll actuator froze up in the closed position.

My boost used to drop off in 3rd to under 5 psi. But after I wired the actuator open, I can make 10 PSI all day long.

SonicRaT 05-11-03 03:52 PM

That usually doesn't cause a whining sound though.

J-Rat 05-11-03 03:57 PM

No, the whining sound was the chick in the passenger seat. Still havent figured out how to eliminate that sound...

SonicRaT 05-11-03 03:59 PM

Are you sure you're just not mistaking the scream for help to get away from you? Damn post whore rat! :)

Rx7Nub 05-11-03 04:16 PM

lol, hmm... well I didn't have a chick in my car at the time, so I don't think that's my problem... allthough that does explain a few other problems!

And what exactly does the twin scroll actuator do? I never actually found that out.. I knew everyone hated it... and always removed it.

SonicRaT 05-11-03 04:21 PM

It's supposed to make the turbo spool faster (bah) But commonly just makes boost fall off, wire it open as the other rat said. IF it doesn't fix your whirring sound, then it's the turbo's bearings more than likely.

J-Rat 05-11-03 04:25 PM

yeah, I am the other rat!

Rx7Nub 05-11-03 04:25 PM

Hmm.. I will do a search on it, and see what I can do. Thanks.

pbanks 05-11-03 08:32 PM

remember smoke can also be caused by too rich or to lean

jgrts20 05-11-03 09:55 PM

welp if its running too rich or too lean how would u fix that? um......... sonic u crack me up and rx7 dude nice come back!! damn birds always pooing on everything!!
