Can someone please tell me what this is:

It is located under the carpet, on the passanger side of the car. My friend and I scratched our head for awile and then gave up. It looks like some sorta sensor.

Anyone know? Can it be removed or relocated, since I want to Dynamat the floor boards...

Exhaust system overheat sensor.

For the light on the iddiot guages?
Can it simply be removed and just no longer have a working dash light?
Cause with Dynamat it probably wont work anymore through it, and I dont want to cover it with mat either...

Take this for what it's worth.

I have had RX-7's for about 8 years now. I have even had the catalytic converters glowing cherry red. I have never had the overheat sensor go off.

With that, do what you think needs to be done.

Get rid of it and get a Pinapple Racing dual EGT gauge instead.

It'll always be a mystery to me how a dual EGT gauge relates to that sensor.
