WTF! is/are this/these??!!? Antenna, Racing stripes??
I just wanna know WHAT in the hell the two small wires/lines that run down the middle of the windshield are and/or what they do???
They are little skinny black lines (2) that run down the center of the windsheild, kinda look like the heater wires in the rear, but smaller.... I heard someone say once that they are part of the antenna system and help reception. BUt that doesnt make much sense, is that true??? THANKS :) |
They are the second antenna wires. Don't help too much.

It has to do w/ the radio. Something called Diversity Tuning, or something like that. The stock radio has two antenna inputs, the windshield one fits into one, and the regular antenna into the other.

Yep. They are supposed to supplement the rear antenna. What it's supposed to do is use the front "lines" when they get better reception, and alternate to the rear one when it gets better reception. When hooked up correctly with the stock unit, it actually does work quite well compared to other stock systems in even newer vehicles. I always got great reception when I had it hooked up.

If you ever install a Sony ES head unit, you can use this. The Sony has two antenna plugs, works well the RX-7.

i used the windshield antenna to hook up to my pager alarm, and the rear antenna to my cd player. both work great.

Good idea!

I thought that they were for AM reception. My Nova (AM only radio) has them, and no regular antenna, dads old buick has em etc...I'm almost positive thats what they're for. Of course these cars were mad when FM really wasn't that widely used yet / just becoming popular.

My antenna broke and I just unhooked it. I get all the same stations I always did before... some cars only have the windshield type antennas.
|
Cool, thanks guys :)
