WTF! Less BOOST after this mod...
I have a Manual Boost Controller hooked up on my 87 TII and today I took it off my car. Anyways, to return back to stock boost, I just connect the two hoses which lead to my MBC (mounted next to the boost sensor) together with a connector. By doing so, I get a max stock boost of 10psi in 4th gear (due to my 3" exhaust & 3" intake). But today, I tried something diffferent. I connected the line between the wastegate and the turbo with a super short hose, about 4" long. AND NOW, I only get 8psi max boost in 4th GEAR!!! WTF is that all about?! How did I get more BOOST from having longer lines between the turbo/wastegate connections before???

Because with the long hose, it takes longer for the vacuum to reach the wastegate and tell it to open, also maybe not all the vacuum might be getting through the long hose. The short hose has less distance for the vacuum to travel, to the wastegate reacts faster. IF the wastegate doesnt see much boost, it doesnt open much, increasing boost more.
Ever have less water pressure with a long water hose, than at the outlet on your house?? |
