WTF! Cold weather! My TII won't start?
 

its been really freakin cold here in southeren california for the past two weeks and my FC won't start perhaps its not giving spark? alternator cold (i know thats stupid) or its got 114000 miles on a cold day?

I wish I could help you out, but my TII wont start either. It's doing the exact same thing. I know its getting fuel atleast. I keep having to stop and unflood the damn thing, but it seems like I'm not getting any spark!?

Cali....Arizona.......geesh....live in the midwest w/ 0 degree weather and 1' of snow. But yeah....my car starts fine. Sorry can't help ya out.

Could easily be something with your charging system. If that doesn't work, check your water temp sensor, its on the filler neck, underneith the alternator.

A couple of weeks ago, I went out and started the car and it started right up. I let it idle for a few minutes and shut it off. I went back the next day and tried to start it again, nothing. I've unflooded it several times and now it's making a loud click every few seconds. Whenever it clicks it does not slow down the engine cranking, but dims the lights in the car. I though it might have something to do with the alternator but it was just replaced about a year ago. I havent been able to drive the car because I bent the clutch fork and I'm about to start a TO4 swap on it. Like I said before I dont think I'm getting any spark because it wont even start to studder. I'm going to take the plugs out again tomorrow and put some ATF in there and try again. If that does'nt work, I'm just going to start the swap and re-do every ground while I'm at it.

Definietly needs a good battery to get the engine turning normally. Hopefully you didn't flood the car, but being an S5 you'll be able to clean it out.

mine didn't start on the first day of the ice storm in kansas. It just clicked like crazy. Had my boss at work jump my car and it started fine. Had some massive current draw too. Make sure you have a good battery.

yeah, my car doesnt like to start in really cold weather either, its an 87 tii. but i know i have a bad battery. i hooked up a dmm to it and watched the smallest loads drain it. then cranking dropped the voltage to 6 or 7 volts. hahah. im picking up my odyssey tomorrow, hopefully it'll fix my problem. probably starter strains my weak battery so much theres no fuel, no spark, or neither.

An older battery may be part of the problem. They lose power when it gets cold, and it takes a LOT of power to turn an engine when cold. See if a jump start helps. It might be time to look into a new battery though, they're cheap enough.

Also, what weight oil do you have? While I seriously doubt southern Cali gets "freakin' cold" by Iowa standards, if it's below freezing, 20W-50 will probably not be helping the engine out any. I've got a load of 10W-30 in my '7 right now (factory suggested winter oil) and it seems to be OK in the cold (started it fine in sub-zero weather).

Also, how are your battery terminals? A "click" and not turning can also be caused by loose or corroded battery terminals. If the electrons can't get through, they can't do work. It can also cause a severe voltage drop when cranking (resistance, high amperage, not a lot of voltage to begin with). Grounding issues can cause problems here too.

the flooding could simply be from not starting your car for a while. If you haven't started your car in a couple of weeks or so, you will have trouble starting and sometimes it will stall and flood.

also, remember that any major change in temperature usually does odd things to the battery. When you enter the cold season and the hot season.

during the Kansas ice storm my car sat outside for the main day of the ice storm and the next couple of days. once i could get my door open from all that frozen ice it started right up.
