WTF is this?!
I was wiring up my vdi and once I got it done I took her for a spin, felt nice but then it felt under powered again :( I poped the hood thinking one of my zip ties holding the vdi open snapped, but then I herd a swooshing air sound like a vacume leak. After a a few seconds I found this, I must have broke it when I was messing with the vdi
It must have broke before because the owner before me put some hard epoxy ont it (the red stuff) that or a poor mechanic did it :( So what the hell are these and how am I going to fix it? |

i think thats one of the VDI control solenoids. They are all the same. Just go to junk yard, find any RX-7 and grab one.

When I replaced all of my hoses I succeeded in breaking off every one of those nipples. They seem to get very brittle over time. I went and picked up some shunts from the local parts store that were approximately the same diameter as the hole left on the solenoid and razored off a little for a tight fit. When all the nipples were replaced I dabbed on some strong epoxy to seal them in. After the nipples were (I wanted to say hardened) DRIED, I simply plugged the new hoses over them.
Shunt may not be the word I'm looking for. Actually, I just went out to the garage and found an extra package of what I had purchased. VACU-TITE Brand Vacuum Connectors #47302 1/8"X1/4" RXSE7EN |

I think it would be ok if its just a vdi solenoid. I only have 86-87 and no vdi. RXSE7EN....I like that fix. What do you do to keep the epoxy from getting in the hole??? I use a toothpick that has vaseline on it so the epoxy won't stick to it.

i had to do that with my MAP sensor. I was on the dyno and the idiot was going to 'T' the MAP sensor and he broke the nipple off!! So i had run to the auto parts store, use some epoxy and carefully repair it. It worked, lasted until i blew the motor up a year later.

Why would a broken vdi solenoid even affect your top end IF you got it wired for top end. I suspect your zip ties came off and so it's sitting in the stock position where it depends on the air to actuate the rods, which explains your power loss at the top. Since you're going to have it permanently wired open, you don't need the solenoid working anyways.

HAILERS—You reminded me of a step that I forgot! TY
The connector is a reducer 1/8" for the solenoid to 1/4" for the hose—I PREDRILLED the solenoids with a 1/8" bit…slowly as to avoid dropping solenoid crumbs into the little beasties. The connectors are "barbed" or rather graduated so as you put them in they fit very tightly. I just used the epoxy sparingly on the outside of the connectors where they meet the solenoid.
