Would a performance clutch make my car FASTER?

My Mazda clutch in my 87 TII is almost in need of changing...I have around 40% left, which is not bad (2 months ago, when I had my engine done). If I was to get like a Stage III Clutchmaster clutch, would it actually make my car faster too?

make it faster... um.. maybe you mean ingage faster? in that case an ACT clutch is a good purchase if you can afford the money.

you won't be making any more power, but the power you make will be used more effectively. so in that sense, yes.

your kidding right?

Unless a clutch is slipping the gain by a beefier clutch is like not even measurable. Heavier duty clutches are intended for heavier modded drive train's - near worthless investment on a stock application.

Umm...NO.

Radial GT 07-19-04 09:10 PM

You'll be able to launch like a madman, so yes, you will be faster if you think about it as in how fast can you get to one point from a stop. Good investment, now you can add power and not worry about if the clutch will hold up. No were near worthless.

Yes, it makes your car faster; you can engage faster in higher gears. You can have a larger difference in RPM before engaging the clutch, and the clutch will take up more slack.

RyosukeTakahashi 07-19-04 10:32 PM

umm it won't make your car faster if you still shift really slow.... regadless of if your clutch will slip or not at higher RPM

z4csl428 07-19-04 10:32 PM

no HP gains of course but i jus replaced my OEM clutch with an ACT 4 puck, it improved .3 at the track

Terrh 07-19-04 11:16 PM

stock OEM clutches are good for about a dozen hard launches in their lifetime.

so after that, an aftermarket clutch will make you MUCH faster.

when is the last time you were able to launch so high that your clutch slipped and not your tires? If I dump the clutch at anything higher than 4,000 RPM then I'm not going anywhere fast, and at 4,000 RPM the clutch grabs instantly, no slipping.

Mr. Gadget is correct. In a stock application an upgraded clutch is nearly worthless.
