Is It Worth It?

3 Attachment(s)
Acouple of days ago i was planning on purchasing a 1986 N/A GXL Coupe. They seller told me that it had 63k on a new engine that the previous owner had installed himself. It wasnt a professional instalation. But everything else on the car was in good shape. oil changed every 2k miles and good enterior. Smooth shifting..etc. He was selling it for 3 thousand.

Today he calls me and tells me that he got into a wreck. He rear-ended this girl..in a civic. but it wasnt hard. he dropped the price in half.

This is what it used to look like
and this is how it looks now.

Is it still worth buying and fixing it up or should i just keep looking?

Depends on if you're any good at bodywork and mechanical. If you can't fix it yourself, go find an intact one.

even if you can fix it yourself its not worth it. i bought my 89 vert for 3k. almost perfect body. and a motor that was supposed to be good. the seller had no clue it was blown and neither did i. so i could have got it for cheaper if i knew that at the time of the sale.

pick up a junkyard hood, headlight hoods and a front bumper your good to go and all for less that the car at full cost, granted it will look like POO but that can be fixed
also...
what is this guy doing driving the car he wants to sell?!?
i had someone do that to me once back when i was first interested in rx's (it was a first gen) except he totaled that car

was all the damage cosmetic or is there some frame damage that will make the diff and u really cant tell if there is frame damage from those photo's

cool_as_crap 06-26-06 01:24 PM

eh, damage doesnt look too bad to me. but i do think the original price is a little high. ask if he will take $1k for it

oh man.. good luck trying to find a front bumper. I have heard that they are really hard to find, and when found, are really expensive.

can get them off ebay or just buy a bodykit to replace the nose piece.

maybe for s5 bumpers, but not s4.

I agree offer him $1000 and see if he takes it, I doubt anyone else is gonna want it now.

all he said was that the radiator mount was pushed back a little but other than that no frame damage. He said that i need to replace the light houshings the hood and the front bumper

I bought a 87 that had that much damage. I was able too talk him down to 300 for it. But the 87 had a little frame damage. I say if the frame is straight a 1000 wouldn't be too bad cause you can find those s4 body parts for cheap all day long.

1500$??? If teh frame is untouched...look carefully and inspect it yourself.
