Won't start when warm but can bump?
 

Hi,

Having troubles, my series II, I drive the car, get it to its normal opperating temperature then switch off ignition. Now if I re-start within 5 minutes the car will start, after the 5 minutes and before 5 hours of re-start the car will not start, the engine turns but no go ever unless it is bump started. I can even leave it for two days and still nothing. It has fuel, decent spark at spark plugs. What could it be? Is it flooding it's self perminantly? And why does it start if it's bumped? Is there some trick to turning the engine off like revving before turning the key off??? Don't know......

Any help would be could as I'm short of cash and if its a simple problem then I don't want to take to my mechanic .

Of course, this is imho. I believe this is a combination of lower compression and slightly leaky fuel injectors. I am not saying your engine is shot. My '87 TII only has 90 psi, and it runs super! When you try and start the car, the fuel pump is turned on immediately. When you bump start the car, the fuel pump is not turned on until you are sucking enough air through the AFM to make the switch (usually very close to idle). There is the difference, bump start, no pump, runs on remaining gas in fuel lines/manifold. Starter switch, fuel pump on right away, it floods out. That is the solution to the problem also. Go to a Radio Shack type of shop, get a 20A SPST switch, wire the fuel pump power across it. Turn the switch off, start the car, as soon as the motor starts to run, turn the switch on. You can do this at the circuit opening relay under the dash, the resistor relay (TII) in the engine compartment passenger side front, or at the actual fuel pump plug on the drivers side rear strut tower (All of this assumes the drivers side is on the left side of the car, where it should be :D :D :D ). Works for us! If your car is an '89 or newer, the relay locations may be wrong, but you get the idea. Good luck!

Plus I don't suppose you know of any clear front indicator lenses, so that you can use orange bulbs? (do you guys have orange indicators?) And do you know how easy it is to get stuff sent over to England?
