won't Idle
My car won't idle, and it dies if it gets below 1500 to 2000 RPM's. I'm confused. I just recently resurrected it from a BAD flooding episode. I have an 1989 N/A with an Auto :( transmission. It's confusing me...and I want for it to run like normal again!! Anyway, I was thinking about maybe running some 2-cycle engine oil through the gas tank, or some gum-out type of stuff. Does anyone have ANY suggestions?
I appreciate it! <>< Matthew Keith ><> |
Sounds like a small intake leak, or vacuum leak. Try having somebody make the car idle while you spray starter fluid around the manifold and gaskets to see if it raises your idle anywhere. If so you've found your intake leak. Also check all you vacuum line to make sure they are on securely, and that lines are still soft, and not cracking anywhere.

i had the EXACT same problem!!! it was killin me tryin to figure it out. what i did to fix it you ask? get about 1/2 a tank of gas and find somewhere where u can drive that u wont have to stop, or can keep thottleing it while at a light or something. then get a full bottle of fuel injector cleaner. dump it in, and run it as long as you can, it should be ok now. thats what fixed it for me...

Hey Y'all, I FINALLY figured it out. I changed the oil in it (the other oil was VERY saturated with gasoline. It was not very cool! But anyway, I changed the oil, and it just cranked right up unassisted. Of course, it still dies on occasion, but it's A LOT better than it was! Anyway, thanks.

make sure u clean those injectors, be it the gas tank type, or take them out and get them clean. it helps more than you think...
