wish we had a idle write up for t2s and na,s ,lets start
 

im on this forum quite a bit and always see idle issues
it would be nice if some of you members who have fixed there idle and write what you did to fix it

i now theres one in the faq but everyons issue is differant
this is not a bash threadf its a help each other out thread

i fixed mine with using a butane torch unlit ofcourse to search for the leak

but if you have fixed yours write a few lines to help others

I think what he is asking is that we get FAQ's page on idle with every solution to fix an idle problem, that way they dont have to search for it.

thats how it should be. if i could, i would make a fix it thread for every possible symptom of an rx7.

especially if somebody wants to do an s5 TII into an s4 n/a swap, s4 n/a to s4 TII, s4 TII into s5 n/a swap, and s5 n/a to s5 TII swap. these are the biggest issues people have.

but anyhow, for the idle problem:

everybody has a different rx7 engine management setup. the best thing to do is use the adjustment screws on the dynamic chamber and throttle body AFTER you fix any and all vacuum leaks and make sure your engine is running properly before doing any of the fixes.

90% of idle problems come down to vacuum leaks and TPS issues. The remaining 5% are BAC related, and then the other 5% are miscellaneous. I'm fairly sure the FAQ already has idle resources that cover the common causes.

Now, since you mention other engine management, that's a different story. Idle issues with standalones are going to be tune related as standalones don't much care about vacuum leaks and TPS funny-ness.

for the newbie where should the start with vacum leaks

I believe people use a propane torch

ive been combating a surging idle for a while and the FAQ dont help at all (after making sure thats all good).

like aaron cake said... those tend to be the most common of the problems.

like i said... search. its been battered and beaten to death. hell... there is... um... oh i dont know... a manual? like... the mazda service manual? that tends to help a lot.

or hell, even a haynes manual.

Go see if your ECU is seeing the NEUTRAL and the clutch in signal at the ECU. See the FUEL AND EMISISIONS seciton of the FSM and the pages called CONTROL UNIT which list what the values for those two items is and what pin of the ECU it is recieced at.

If the ecu does not see the neutral, the car could act funny in a not so haha way.

and OP i think this is a great thread i will definatley post what i did and the problems i was having after their fixed.

i wish hailers could do a faq from starting from scratch

the fsm has the answers to but hailers
makes it more understandable

ok so i barely drive the car thats why my laziness took this long to fix it, but in short the airbox/heatsheild i made for it had the MAF pointing about three degrees down, so i put the stock airbox on and adjusted the TPS and its perfect except the idle is high, ~1500.
so just need to build a new airbox/heatsheild with the hole for the tip of the MAF to fit through roughly a half inch or so higher. :icon_tup:
and lower the idle with one of the screws on the TB, probably the throttle plates are set open a little to far when throttle is closed.
