wiring for SAFCII
Theres a wiring diag for the SAFC but haven't seen one for the II. There are extra wires so are they just not used? Here is the I.
Red: power Black: ground Brown : ground Green: RPM Yellow: Air flow meter output (ECU side) White: Air flow meter input (AFM side) Grey: TPS (throttle) So theres a purple pink blue orange thats left. Are those needed? |

Well I found the purple wire is for the knock sensor. Another question about different impendence injectors. The car has a resistor pack which would mean low impendence injectors. So I have some 750 and 1200 rc injectors with 750 being high and 1200 being low. So that would mean just use the secondaries(1200) by bypassing the resistor pack and the primaries(750) as normal correct?

I was looking at SUPER SAFC (shown in jpg attached) and not SAFCII, so that's why the purple wire got missed.
Knock signal.......worthless signal. Hit a small bump in the road and it shows up as knock. Therefore in my eyes.......knock box is worthless. Been there, seen that on a SAFCII. Yes, bypass the resistors in the Solenoid Resistor for the two wires going to the high resistance injectors. |
If you do want to hook up the knock signal, it is the gray wire on the knock control unit harness. The s4 knock sensor location is especially prone to noise though.

The SAFC manual (page 52) shows the SAFC's purple wire going to pin 1R, which in a TURBO car would have been a LIGHT GREEN wire. It's not the wire coming from the knock sensor itself, but the wire from the Knock Control Unit itself.

Well I think its a resistor pack, but it looks different from the pictures I've seen and its got a different plug. Here's a picture.

No. That is not the solenoid resistor pack. That is something called a Fuel Pump Resistor/Relay package. It lowers the fuel pump voltage to approx 9vdc when the car is under no load and when under load, ups the voltage to alternator output voltage.
The fuel injector solenoid resistor package is bolted to the inner fender below the afm/filter. Jpg attached of one. View is looking down. This guy has no afm/filter box, just a cone with afm. You can see the wiper/washer filler neck in the picture. Maybe your car has no solenoid resistor package. What is the build date on the plate inside the driver door? Day/month/year? |
Well the harness and engine/trans I just swapped in was from a 10th aniversary car so maybe it doesn't have one. Its got the 332 ecu in it. Would that mean I need to add resisters to the low resistance injectors, or are they fine?

Anything after June 87 does not have the solenoid resistor Because those cars after June 87 came with high resistance injectors.
So you need to add resistor(s) to each injector wire for the low resistance injectors you say you have. Someone else can explain how to do that. |
do you use the cps for the rpm signal?

Until HOUSTONDERK gives an answer..............the SAFC's grey wire gets spliced to pin 1X on the series fours large plug. That signal is the same one picked up by the tach from the trail coil assy. So it does not use the crank angle sensors input to the ECU as such.

There is a rpm wire. The only different thing is to use the boost sensor instead of the tps sensor on s4.
