wiring loom

Installed a microtech ecu. Now I need to know if I can remove the engine loom (one with injectors, afm etc.)? From what I can see everything on it is unplugged except for a 2wire plug that goes to something on the thermostat housing. But as the loom is unplugged at the ecu end I figure anything on it (loom) no longer functions so it may aswell be removed.

So yeah I'm just wondering if i'm right in thinking this and any adverse effects in removing the excess wiring?

Yes, you can remove the loom. But keep in mind that the engine harness (technically called emission harness) also has wiring for the alternator, water temp sensor and wiper motor. When I do standalones, I normally strip the harness down to those three things and keep it in place, looming it up into the standalone harness.

would jdm spec be different? from what i can see the wiper motor is on a different loom that goes right up the front of the car and loops back round and goes into the drivers side of the fire wall. the alternator wires look as though they're on the same one as the wiper motor.

Wouldn't know about the "JDM" cars, never seen one.

On US spec cars, the alternator power wire is on the engine harness (driver side harness that also goes to starter). The two small alternator wires (idiot cluster light and regulator bias) are on the emssions harness as well as the water temp and wiper motor.

well i've decided i'm just going to pull it out. theres one last thing though, the solenoid resistor is also on this loom. what does a solenoid resistor do and what'l happen if i pull it out?
