ok what gauge of wire do i need for an s4 wiring harness if i wanted to rebuild some of the bad wires on it?

the same gauge of wire that needs to be rebuilt.

14-12 gauge I think is what is mostly used. as cheap as you can get it go for the shielded.

does anyone have a good wiring diagram of an s4 turbo wiring harness? i also may need to run high impedence injectors on an s4. i know you can do this by using something to make it low but i have no idea what it is called, or where i can get one. any help would be appreciated.

I can't help you with the High/low impedance injectors, but you can find a complete wiring harness in either a haynes book (availble from Advance Auto Parts, A&A, NAPA, or any other parts store), or factory service manual, availble for free for download if you check the FAQs at the top of the 2nd gen forum.

ive got the fsm and that thing is so fucking confusing. ill try the fsm.

You don't need to waste your money on shielded wiring for any circuit that normally carries more than 3-4 volts...The wire size depends on the circuit loads, we have several different sizes in our cars, of course...The main thing to keep in mind is to not install a smaller gage wire than the one you're pulling...Shoot for the next size up if ya want, that should be more than adequate...Get different size spools at your friendly auto parts store (16,14,12, and maybe 10 should cover 90% of the car), and go to town...

Most of those look like they came from your relief, switching, EGR, and pressure regulator control solenoid valves...If your rat's nest is gone, you can snip them back as far as you want to unwrap the harness, just remember some of them will have juice on 'em, so snip them at different points (so all the ends of the wires won't be in the same spot), and make sure the wire ends are capped, or taped, so no shorting will occur...

the harness is out of the car. i also have all emissions, power steering, and ac out. what else can i cut? i traced the wire back tot he main harness. could i cut it there and be done with it?

LOL, before you start hacking up the harness, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the wiring schematics, just to make sure nothing you're cutting feeds another circuit or component besides the one you got rid of. Like I said, you can cut them as far back as you like, when I "hacked" mine up during the rebuild I left a couple of power wires fairly near to where the connector "used to be" in case I needed a power source down the road in the area. If you have the AAS wiring running up the strut towers, but don't have the option on the car, they're a good candidate for removal- they're big, which means they're heavy (relatively speaking), and they're doing absolutely nothing for the car.
Use the schematic for each wire you want to cut, figure out where it goes (in case you can possibly remove the entire wire from plug-to-plug), and like I said, make your cuts staggered if you're cutting several in the same area, to prevent future shorts (we have enough of those as it is :))

ok. ill start to inspect the harness and start rebuilding it when i get some wire. ive looked over the wiring diagram and kinda lost. i dont think those wires wre hooked up when i pulled my motor. so i dont think i need them.

It sounds like you need to hold up on the hacking for a while until you get the engine & harness back in, so you'll know EXACTLY what's left over after everything's connected up :)

razorback if you have not already done this do it. It will get rid of what those plugs plug into.

well my motor is out of my car and i kinda remember what was already taken out of my car already. so its not as difficult as it would be..i dont think..i jut have an aftermarket radiator that i need to make a custom thing for.
