1988GTU - I have not gotten down to really trouble shooting this yet. So I am asking about the relations of these items to the wipers, to make the job less stressful.

Ok my ignition switch was going dead. I swapped it out for one from the 87JDM parts car. The only difference in these switches is that my NA switch had two 20ga wires in the middle labeled L and E, the JDM ignition switch did not. I do not know what these are for or how they work in the ignition switch. These two wires went to a quick connector of 4. The other 2 wires from the clip went to a white little box in the back of the steering lock ignition assembly. The key is turned at all it lifts a little bar inside it pressing 2 metal clips together causing the 2 wires inside it to connect. I tried wiring both circuits together by tying the two from the ignition switch together and the two from the steering lock section together. Do not know if this is right or not but I could not find any changes in the car at all.

I fitted the wind shield wiper bottle back into the car and hooked it up. I tried unplugging it no change in wiper working at all. No fuses blown. Every other item on the instrument cluster works. The wipers work on no speed nor does the mist work.

I do have the sunroof out of the car right now and the sun roof harness.

After all this I am asking has anything I have done or have removed cause them not to work? And what are the wires missing from my JDM ignitions switch "L and E"

I'n not sure this helps, but after somebody tried to steal my car by wrecking the plastic part of the ignition cylinder I need to start the car by shortcircuiting the connections in the plastic. I have discovered that one of the points is not needed for starting it, but if that is not connected the wipers wont work at all and the ABS light lights up.

Thanks. Can anyone tell me if this is the L E that Ariel is refering to? Or another set in the ignition?

As well what is the L E wires for?

I'm just talking abou the ignition plug with four wires: Unplugged the car runs/acts just the same as with it connected. This is not the answer. This is just Stage One of the Answer. Stage Two to follow after I go for a swim in the pool.

KEY REMINDER are two of the wires. The K1 and K2. I'm starting to lose interest in this. It's going to be theft related. I've little to no interest in that. Maybe later for the other two wires.

I do not know of K1 or K2. The 4 wire clip as I specifyd ^ unpluged or not car respondes no differently. I pulld it off my JDM car that seemed to have all the options, ABS and that good stuff.

I spent the day gettin car parts and the paint for the motor so no time to give more NFO. I will see what I can further come up with in combination of what you continu to post tomarrow.

In the 1987 manual, chapter 15, page 15-131, they show the four ignition switch connectors.

The four contact plug is I.D'd as having K1 and L on the top row and K2 and E on the bottom row. They identify the K1 - k2 as *Key reminder sw*.

Now when they i.d. the K1-K2 THEY are looking directly into the mating side of the ignition switch plug. Given that you can look at your plug on the car and decide what K1-K2 mate with on the harness side of the ignition plug.

I went out earlier out of curiosity and unpluged mine and everything seems to work just fine without that plug connected. I also have no theft protection ........on the car that is. I do have *some* theft protection though.

When I saw in the manual the plug was theft protection related, I more or less started losing interest in the other two wires. I might look later though.
