Window Switch

I have an s5 convertible and having problems with the both the passenger and driver side. On the driver side, I'm missing the switch so I was wondering if i could use any s4-s5 window switch to replace it or does it have to be an s5 vert. The other issue is that my passenger side windows has trouble going up and down. It doesn't go up all the way unless i pull hard on it, And it goes down half way before it halts. How would I resolve this issue? Would spraying WD 40 on the pullys help or is it off track or something?

the mechanism is probably getting worn out. it happened to my buddy's FC coupe.

You can probably use parts out of a same-series coupe, I'd think

On a more HELPFUL note. Yes the S4 and S5 switches are interchangable. Although the S4 are far superior to the S5's (internally that is), although they dont have the dimple..woo-hoo. They are cheaper too. The catching windows could be caused by a few things. Take your door panel off, then the plastic sheet, and inspect everything. Clean and lubricate everything. Plug the switch in while everything is exposed and watch the motion of all moving parts to see whats going on. Good luck.

Scrappy, some people actually use the search function and hate having to sort through usless, off topic crap like you've been posting, in order to find useful information.

dude i gotta get my posts up

DavidHolmesIII 04-11-08 03:15 AM

Get your posts up in General Automotive, Non-tech/pics, etc. This section is for info. I count on 2nd gen specific for tons of my own research, and shit like this is always getting in the way.

Your coupe is not a convertible. Don't give out information if you do not know it to be accurate. These tech posts stay on the forum forever. As DavidHolmesIII says this type of bullshit gets in the way of finding accurate information.

As a new member, you should read and search lots. You shouldn't be answering questions unless you KNOW from your own experience that the answer is true. If you repeat what someone else has written, you may repeat incorrect information.

Help everyone else and help yourself.

Welcome to the board.

You can use either an S4 or S5 window switch.

Nope you cannot. You cannot adapt the coupe regulator into the vert.

Your cables are probably frayed and broken, the guides are likely broken. The are completely different than the coupes. You can search for a thread that teaches you to rebuild the unit by replacing the cables with Bicycle cables.

This is a very common Vert problem and seems to be more common on the Passenger side.

Good Luck!

I know DavidHolmesIII and I don't exactly always get along, but he's 100% right on this one.

While I can see making up to 10 b.s. posts to get your post count up high enough to join the lounge, you REALLY should stop this crap. We don't need you to come into the technical sections and spatter your anal musk all over otherwise useful threads.
