Window glass removal / cleaning

Hey folks,

The passenger side window on my '88 vert won't go fully up or down. It has about 1-2 inches of motion and that's it.

I took the door card off and unscrewed three bolts through the access panel, but I couldn't get the glass to come up out of the door. It seemed like it got hung up on something. I gave it a fair amount of beans on the attempt, though I didn't want to go all out and risk breaking the glass.

It seems based on reading the Haynes manual, which is unfortunately relatively useless from a practical perspective, that I should be able to remove both the window glass and the regulator without removing the interior door panel. Which is good, because that looks like it's quite a bit of work.

If anyone has any useful experience to share, I'm all ears.

Thanks!

This should help.

FC3S Pro v2.0: How To - Power Window Rebuild

Yep. I was just going to reply. The FSM says it pretty much all comes off. The mirror, armrest and door panel, inside trim strip, outside weather strip, and then two bolts to pull the window glass out.

If the windows on the Vert and FC are the same they are held to the retractor with some plastic clips that use 10mm bolts through the bottom of the glass.
Now,sometimes they will hang up at the edge(where inside door edge meets bottom of glass, rolled up) so just be patient and observe when you pull the glass up.
Another quick solution is to reach into the door and around the bottom of the glass to pop those plastic pieces out of the glas before you pull up on the glass to take it out.

Thanks for the help folks!

Mine looks a bit different from what I see in the guide, but with your help I will give it another go once I have a few hours.

Regarding TonyD89's advice, I didn't remove the outside weather strip (I tried, but it was difficult to remove so I didn't bother). That may have been part of my problem. I'll try harder next time. Any suggestions on making this part easier would be appreciated :)

Thanks again!

The outer sealing strip is only held on by friction, you simply must commit to pulling it off.

The outer strip on my convertible has one screw in it (I think), then a bunch of clips.
