Will this work? (Ghetto exhaust fix)
 

Hey guys,

One of the stock dualy mufflers on my 89 na is rusted out and is leaking pretty bad... sooo I was wondering if I would be able to take the stock y pipe and cut off the section that leads to my leaking muffler right at the y and weld in a patch to make it a single.

My reason for thinking this is that I've been told the stock dualys on the na rx7 exhaust systems are pretty major overkill and actually do more harm than good by adding extra weight without the need for all that flow.

What are your opinions on this? Could it work? Also I know it'll probably sound like shit and be loud but its more just a temporary solution till I can afford a full exhaust set up.

it will be even more of a restriction. if you must do it, go ahead.

How could the RX-7 factory exhaust system be an overkill if there are people out there who gain power when they install lower restriction aftermarket exhaust systems?

About your idea: If that's gonna work? Well, it will probably work, but the engine will be working with more restriction and consequently: lower top-end performance.

Find a new source of information.

Go to the local exhaust shop and have them weld in new sections of pipe to repair the rusted bits, or weld up the rusted muffler if it isn't totally destroyed. Should be about $100 if you're nice to them.
