Will Start ... Won't Run HELLLP!!

I bring my problems to this forum just to amuse you folks.

Honest to God, this is what is happening.

1. Engine will NOT start at all with Air Mass Flow Meter elctrinically connected. Yes, I have established that by trying it connected and disconnected three times.

2. Engine WILL start with the Air Mass Flow Meter disconnected, but will only run for several seconds (10-15?), then it dies. It will restart, but run an even shorter period of time before it dies. (All this with me working the throttle.)

I disconnected the fuel line and cranked the engine and gas gushed out, so I KNOW that the fuel pump is working. Plus, the engine DOES start.

I just got through replacing all the fuel lines, oil lines, vacuum lines, fuel pulsation damper and plugs, so I had the entire top of the engine apart. I don't THINK I have any disconnected vacuum lines (I replaced them one at a time to be sure that I got them right.).

I readjusted the throttle cable length a bit, bit I don't think that would make the engine die.

Please tell me what you might know about this wierd situation.

Thank you,

Walt

Try another USED afm. It's possible the ECU's 5vdc Ref Voltage is being drowned out by something wrong in the afm. If the 5vdc Ref voltage is kaput you don't get spark.

Or you could prove this one way or the other. You could leace the afm connected and spin the engine while checking to see if the sparkplugs are sparking or not. If they are sparking then my idea is all wet. If the sparkplugs are not sparking, I might be right and you should try a USED afm to see if things improve.

Or if you had a digital meter you could check other things.

The plugs are sparking because the engine does run, albeit for a very short period of time. :(

i would say the air flow meter needs fixed or replaced. It's clearly the source of the problem here.

Where on the intake exactly do I find the air flow meter and where is it suppost to go? I have mushroom intake that was put in by the guy who owned the car before me, i am in a very similar situation and I 'm just going through possible solutions, this is sounding very promising, could someone point me in the right direction?
