Wierd Coolant Problem
 

Hi, Club.

I got a question for ya, if its been covered then Im a tard and coould not find it. Just bought a Base 7, coolant blows out the resvour when it is running, but when you start it, it doesnt blow white smoke, how can it be that big of a rotor housing leak but not billow white smoke.

ANy ideas? Mabye its not a coolant seal leak? Mabye sommething not engine internal?

did you check the thermostat to see if it's bad or good. also what year is it?

What do you mean it blows out the resvour???
I've had the little plastic gasket fall the pieces and cracked the coolant fill assembly part. That'll leak straight onto your very hot exhaust manifold...

Have you tried looking at your radiator cap?

blown water jacket/coolant seals does not always blow white smoke out exhaust. check for bubbling with cap off, or get pressure test etc. what you are describing does sound like exhaust gases blowing into coolant causing overflow, though there can be other causes -air pocket in coolant system, bad rad caps,and a few other coolant system related little things but...

btw if the engine means nothing to you long term and just want to get some more life out of the car there is a stop leak trick that can be done using some coolant stop leak products....does/can clog things up long term search and you will find things people have tried b4 (myself included though never posted) got me another 2 years out of the same situation in a base 86 I had once...

Do yourself a favor a bleed the coolant system, follow the proper procedure which is probably in the FSM or Haynes.

If the Leak is Located on the part of the Housing where the Gases are Combusted,then the Compressed Gases will enter the Cooling system.That is because 100 psi is Greater than 13psi(of that of the cooling system).So,Ya,you will get "air" into the Cooling system,but NO Coolant can go into the Internals.if the Leak was located on a Intake "stroke" then the car would suck Coolant,and smoke when you Drive it...I would do a Compression test.While you are Doing the Test,have the Rad cap,or Thermostat cap OFF,that way when you put Compression into the Engine,you should also get Air in the Cooling system,and See the Coolant SPEW or Bubble.(that means rebuild).
