width of steering rack
Hey guys! I have swapped a 91 rhd fc crossmember and front suspension into my 79 sa. I bought an 87 lhd steering rack from a member in order to put it in and get lhd.
now I have made my own mounts but the crossmember simply will not reach the female tie rod attachments on the wheels. the driver's side the tie rod is 1 inch short and on the passenger side my tie rod is 4 inches short!! I have meausred my steering rack to be 44 inches from the tip of one tie rod to the tip of the other and the gap is 49 inches. Have I got the wrong rack? How wide is an s4 and s5 steering rack? thank you! Chris |
wouldn't the RHD crossmember put the Steering box mount on the wrong side of the car?If you are making the Car an LHD?.
On the drivers side (LHD ) the mount has 4 bolts..on the passenger side it has 2. ..the only thing I can think of is everything is getting Reversed when you try to use RHD crossmember and the LHD rack. NOTE:if you really need a measurement of a Power Rack(s4) AND a manual rack.,.I got TWO sitting outside.,and I can get the Measurements for ya,.PM ME if ya want them. |
the power rack, I have measured 22 inches long, the outer tie rod to tie rod length is 54 inches,it was removed from a running car if you can't make it work,or need a left hand cross member ,etc, or Help call me at 1 - 204 275 1589 ps I have done this swap a few times ,.good luck

Thanks for your help! I just picked up a used actual FC power rack from RX7 Specialties here. Looks to have the right dimension, what a load off haha.
Looks like the other rack sold to us by a member here as an FC rack is in fact a Miata unit. This is certainly disappointing, but everyone's assistance makes up for that. |
