wide 16" wheels?
im looking for some cheap aftermarket wheels for my car for the drifting season next year...
looking for something in the line of....16x8 for the front, and 16x9 in the back...... anyone have any links or reccomendations?..... ive been looking, but havent found much that impress me... |
When they say FC owners are cheap....they mean it. You should search your local junkyard. If you dont mind non matching rims that is. Otherwise you might have to pay money...there arent any free rims secrets out there..

Check with Wheelchoice or Takumi Project...
That'll be our cheapest option. Also check eBay, as several vendors are now offering pretty good deals on used JDM wheels... -Ted |
Mmm I sense Watanabe's in the air

Don't Skyline 16x8 rims fit?
|
yeah, but if you can find them...
|
hhm.. i do love s5 t2 wheels.. but i wanted a little wider... what are they...6.5"?... :uhh:
i was looking at reallly cheap wheels....(wheelguyz.com) and they have some for good prices...but probably shitty offset... because the way i look at it, im going to be most likely hitting them and such, i dont want to buy a $1,500 set of wheels when im just going to be sliding with them... either that, or have nice wheels for everyday driving, and run some shitty wheels for drifting.... but i still want something wider.. 300zx wheels are pretty wide, arent they?.. i want the wider wheels so i can run stretched tires... :git: |
Why may I ask will you run a stretched tire?
|
in order to negate any other handling upgrades he may have haha

If youre willing to run 16x8s in the back, thats the size of FD wheels. Theyre pretty damn light and they look good too, especially when powdercoated.

motegi?

i want to stretch the tires so theres no sidewall flex when sideways.. :coolkid01 |
right....but you do realize that with no flex means that you will be blowing the tire if you fould anythign up....let alone severely damaging your nice vehicle when it does blow from teh sidewall. I would recommend you sear teh subject of the tire stretching before performign it.

Ebay wheels for 300zx come up with good choices on the cheap. Ie. stock TT 16x8 and 16x9 wheels, or some aftermarket BBS versions like what I found one day, same size, same 9" rear width which makes the car look like it's related to a certain american V8 car without the torque.

isnt there a reason why all the professional drift drivers run stretched tires?... |

isnt there a reason why all the professional drift drivers run stretched tires?... Yes, it's called I-gotta-be-stylish-and-follow-fads or my-sponsor-told-me-to-do-this-so-I-have-to. -Ted |
88integraLS, you aren't actually parking that in a big mud puddle ALL THE TIME, are you? HA HA.
|
you can check ebay for rims for stock mustang or camaro. Saleen style rims came in 16x8 and 16x9 you can score those pretty easy these days on ebay. Just take a can of high gloss black to the rims without the center caps and they will look kick ass and be only around 400 bucks

and yes, many of the professional drift cars stretch their tires- because their sponsor told them to? maybe. but do their tires blow up? NO!!! so quit making up bullshit. |

I'm not saying weather there's an advantage or not to it so don't start that argument... but how many people have actually seen a tire blow up BECAUSE it was stretched?

Because of it was stretched...
Lots of drifters here are cheap. They run too-narrow tires on wide rims - i.e. 185's on a 7" or 8" wide rim! When these guys hit ruts or minor excursions off the track surface, I've seen them pop the tire. Other cars who don't run hipari very rarely kill tires with similar off-road excursions. There's an Option video testing tires on a Skyline GT-R where they were trying to figure out what the best tire / rim combo was. There was a 18" + 30-series combo that caused the rim lip to HIT the track surface on a section on track which was uneven. Although that is not a direct example of hipari, there is a point where stiff or thin sidewalls can be dangerous! -Ted |
