wich one

i have a chioce between a red convertible 91 2nd gen automatic for 1500 brand new, or a blue 88 2nd gen stick that i can get for 100 bucks, it runs but the engine needs a rebuild the interier needs alot of work, needs a paint job, seats, stearing wheel, brakes, rims, exauhst, speakers, cd player, needs a dent taken out in rear bumper, the car sounds like it would be a fun project. the red rx7 is already for me it has electric windows unlike the blue car, it has mor speakers thatn the blue car, it deosnt need any work unlike the blue car and it has leather interier unlike the blue car. but is the blue car really worth the trouble just to have a stick. and i would also like to know how much faster the stick would be than the automatic.and can i buy a hard top for the convertible if i can how much will it cost. and can i make the automatic a stick and how much will it cost.

what would the cost be

Belive me, the 91 will need work. It's 14 years old. The plus of the '91 is that it dosn't need much cosmetic work, which is the hardest part. The automatics on these cars suck. It was a huge difference going from AT to 5 speed. You can swap the 5 speed into the AT, but it's not a direct fit. I think the convertables came with both mounts though. If you're mechanically inclined, the blue '88 might be fun to work on, but it might be at least a year before you have a reliable car, and with everything it needs, it'll probably end up costing more than the '91 in the long run.

I know of someone locally who has a transmission if you want to pay shipping...
