Why no 225/55-15's?
 

Why don't tire manufacturers make a 225/55-15? It seems to be a logical size to produce. There is really no wider tire size to replace the factory 205/60-15's that came stock. I want to keep the diameter the same and the 225/55's are the only size that would work but they don't make it. I found some comp tires in that size and one set of street tires that are way to expensive. Why would they overlook such an obvious size?

As soon as you drop below a 60 profile, you're undoubtably in the performance tire category. While 10 years ago, 15 inches was considered a performce rim diameter, it's not anymore.

You have to go to 16's or larger of you want a wider range of performance tire sizes.

I have 225 50ZR 15's on my car. Dunlop Sport SP 8000. Theyre 1/2" smaller in diameter than stock tires, but that is a good thing. It has the same effect as shorteding the gear ratio.

Hmmmm... you can get Micheline Pilots of one sort or another (touring tires, not performance tires, and they suck) in 225/55/15 for about $200 each if you are dead set on that size. I went to 225/60/15, a bit taller, but they work ok. BE VERY SURE you are using a narrow carcass tire, like my Yokohama AVS dB tires... or they will rub the spring perches in the front.

I bought the 225/50/15's from Canadian Tire and work just fine for 400 bucks CAD. They are called Pacemark. They do the job. They have small arrows around the tire which looks kinda neat
