why does my safc read 24% throttle at idle
please dont move this as the # of people that view the safc forum is next to none. if you post something in there you are extremely lucky to get a response ..
i know 2nd gen browsers have safc's and im just curious if you guys have this problem too? while decelerating above 3k or so it will read 0 throttle when i let off, but at idle it reads anywhere from 20-28 % throttle.. i have it hooked into the pressure sensor .. is that why? |
If you hooked up the SAFC up properly, using the wiring diagram provided with the SAFC, then everything should be alright. When I swapped my TII into my NA, the SAFC read the TPS differently. All I had to do was go through the setup process to let the SAFC re-learn the TPS.

OK... did you buy the car from someone else with the safc in it??
IF so.. then they hooked the TPS input on the safc into the boost sensor... which is the way to go on an s4... really, because the s4 TPS is short range.. OR you hooked it up to the boost sensor on our advice and just didn't realize that the SAFC would learn that 0% is the lowest vacuum that the car sees, which is not when you are at idle!! If its hooked up that way.. it will read 24% at idle because it has learned that the LOWEST possible reading is about 30 inches of vaccume.. wich you will only see when you are decelerating, in gear!!!! At idle.. you are most likely at 16 inches of vaccume.. which must correspond to 24% of the entire pressure range!!! |
my friends car did this for awhile after putting in a new tps before tuning the tps and stuff. it wasn't an safc problem.

You have a series iv. It has a narrowband tps sensor. ie: 30% of actual throttle position = aobut 100% on the safc. Make sure you tps is adjusted to spec. On series iv's, anything over idle is pretty much 100% throttle reading on the safc. not much you can do about other than converting it to use the boost sensor, or rigging in a wideband tps somehow.

if he's seeing 24% at idle and 0 under decel.. it HAS to be hooked to the pressure sensor
if it was hooked to the TPS... 0 would be 0.. period. |

thanks guys .. i assumed it was reading like that cause of it being hooked to the pressure sensor ...
since it reads that as the lowest point while idling, should i raise the switch over percentage .. right now the low map is at lik 15% and the high is at like 50% should i adjust these #'s since i read 24% throttle at idle? |
Nah that's probably a pretty good range for now, unless it's not reading over 50% util late in the band (or really really quickly).
