Why does my '88 TII have two sensors/wires coming out of the oil-pan?

My TII has two sensor plugs in the side of the oil-pan. I have two other TII motors sitting here both of them only have one...?

I ask this because the wire ripped off the sensor on the "unknown" plug and I'm hoping it doesn't matter.

Anyone care to offer their insight?

Thanks,

i belive its some type of thermo sensor for the oil?? for in a cold climate or somthing like that.,...

Cold start assist that is now deleted but found on all the wire harnesses. Messes everybody up when they go to put their motor back in and can't find where the littel connector connects to........then they start a thread.

Can you say Sub-Zero Start assist ? THAT is what it is/was.

Hailers, I'm not at home to look for myself but do you happen to know if the 20B has this extra sensor as well?

On a related note, would it be possible to use that sensor with a temp gauge? Sort of a ready made location if we could!

I know nothing about 20B

It's really a SWITCH. As in ON/OFF. What I did was remove it. It drilled the guts out of it then tapped in threads of the remainder to match the threads on a AutoMeter water temp sender. Then put the outfit back on the pan with the sender and there you go.

A PAN oil temp gauge so I can see the difference b/t the oil temp at the oil filter(I cut a block of aluminum and drilled passages for the filter and a AutoMeter water temp sender) vs the pan temps. Or how cool the oil cooler gets the oil after it leaves the pan. Two seperate temp gauges. I like my toy car.

The oil temp switch is only fitting to engines that had the Sub-Zero Start Assist system. That means that no JDM engines have one, including 20B's. I believe Californian FC's didn't have it either.

well, NZconvertable.. guess what:P

my 10AE did NOT have one - and had the sub-zero start assist (still does!)
and the last S5 jspec that I picked up (with japanese oil filter and everything on it) - had one, and I couldn't figure out wtf it did!

jono20 10-06-05 01:10 AM

we're talking about that lone little pin right? that looks like it was pulled from a harness?

jhammons01 10-06-05 01:15 AM

yes.

Maybe it's had a sump swap then, because without the oil temp switch the Sub-Zero system won't do anything. It only has one input and that oil temp switch is it. That's the only explanation I can think of.

That I can't explain, but I never seen an FC over here with the Sub-Zero system, and they're all ex-Japan.

I've never seen them on any 20B's I've seen. :)
