Why does the Fast Idle gasket allow unmetered, unfiltered air into the TB?
As I noted here, the gasket has a slot designed to allow unfilitered, unmetered air to flow into the throttle body via the front butterfly shaft. Why? As much grief as unmetered air leaks cause this is totally counter intuitive.

I noticed that as well about 6 months ago. I didn't know what to make of it... air was leaking out of there when I pressure tested the car. I ended up ditching the gasket and using RTV, sealing up that slot. I didn't have any obvious adverse effects.
Really? Mine went ultra-super rich.
I think I'm going to leave it and do another pressure test to see if there are any other leaks and then cut the slot back and let it leak.

eh, well I was running a standalone, so if there were any effects I guess I compensated for them in the tuning process. So I guess our experiences are not comparable. I always did wonder why my fast idle was only about 1200rpm as opposed to the 1500ish rpm on a stock car. I wonder if that's it?
