why does the charcoal canister ever break

So the charcoal canister pipe broke on me and I epoxied it back. I could see the top where the pipe attaches to the extrusion of the canister was epoxied on too. Why does the charcoal canister ever break and is there a way to like purge it or something?

never had it break.... Purge? How?

Idk, like release some valve or something, a way to flush it?

It broke because it's 20-25 year old plastic and you pushed/pulled too hard I assume.

There's no reason for you to try to "flush" it. It's just a canister full of charcoal, which traps fuel vapors. When the engine is started, vacuum pulls these vapors into the engine to be burnt off.

If one lives in an emission testing state the cannister is a necessity.
Here in CO it's on the visual check list, which must be passed before they'll test the car.

Of course, they have no idea if the cannister is properly connected (or if it's connected at all) but the cannister had better be in place or you're dead.
