not sufficent fuel posibbly

Xpiredplates 03-03-04 02:04 PM

what you mean
the car is hard to start and i notce that you have to hit the gas really fast to get it to start up
also the car it seems like it is getting enough gas once it is started but like i say it turns cherry red like after 8 mins of runing
need some advice!!!!

the sound of running lean??

Aaron Cake 03-03-04 02:28 PM

Actually, the car is running too rich. The unburnt fuel is being combusted in the exhaust.

Xpiredplates 03-03-04 03:52 PM

ok what do i need to do to fix this issue?

(Edit for signature AGAIN)

Aaron Cake 03-03-04 04:02 PM

How about you fix that signature, then we'll talk?

But the problem is most likely an issue that can be fixed with a simple tuneup.

please dont post shit if you dont know what you're talking about.

this dude is probably running way rich and/or has a clogged cat if its still there

Tofuball 03-03-04 04:44 PM

I'm all for the clogged cat idea. Failing that, squirrels moving into your muffler (I've seen it happen)

BTW, the line of thinking for the not enough gas statement:
Running LEAN makes the EGTs HOTTER.
RICH makes EGT run COOLER.

However, Running rich and having your fuel re-ignite inside your exhaust = much hotter.

Don't park where there is tall grass :D

your timing could be off as well

RotaryBuddha 03-03-04 05:00 PM

well he got headers and opened up the front end. he got cat back exhaust and opened the back up. do you still have all 3 cats. if so get rid of them. go to a local exhaust shop and have them make some piping for you.

Tofuball 03-03-04 05:17 PM

The headers replace the first two cats no matter what, I belive.

The timing could definitely do it as well. In fact, thats what it was on my 66 mustang. I got my whole exhaust to do that excact same thing.

I seriously wonder why I didn't remember that. Guess my brain doesnt assosiate piston engines and rotaries in the slightest . . . :p

Xpiredplates 03-03-04 05:32 PM

yes i have a high flow cat

hugues 03-03-04 05:37 PM

double. Sorry.

hugues 03-03-04 05:38 PM

Watch for the sig !

One way or the other the fuel is not being burnt correctly ... bad timing, misfiring, rich mixture, etc

If the cat is glowing red, its life expectancy is about 1 week (just guessing).

Time for a good tuneup and maybe check the engine codes.

It is funny. It's a quarter of a MB to boot.

5K a second...250K

50 seconds just for your sig...which can slow down the loading of the rest of the page.

;)

I've seen some that approach near two megs and remind me why I never browse forums on dialup....

He probably wants you to remove it because its sexually suggestive. Your next step is being banned from the forum.

Xpiredplates 03-03-04 06:58 PM

No, it's just the simple nature of size (file and dimensions)/length (text)

Xpiredplates 03-03-04 07:00 PM

ther ya go should be all gone

Josepi 03-03-04 07:03 PM

Now that lil dilemma is out of the way, whens the last time you changed plugs/wires?

Have you attempted at changing the timing at all?

How long has this been going on?

How old is the cat?

Xpiredplates 03-03-04 07:07 PM

old cat bought it used
havent messed with timing since i got the car 6 months ago
plugs and wires where just changed
been going on for a while
