Who In Here Has Abs???

Whats exactly leaking? The ABS hydraulic pump? the brake master cylinder? or just some lines?

If its the actual ABS Hydraulic Pump, thats a IFFY situation. A brandnew on from mazda was about 1600 Bucks when i asked (my ABS Hydraulic Pump was leaking) and even then they didnt have them, you COULD get a used one however theres no guarantee the shape its in, there are places that can rebuild it however when i looked into this it was about 800ish. I personally ended up taking out the ABS Hydrualic pump, got a NON ABS master cylinder and the required brake lines (ended up costing me about 150 bucks overall) and converted the car to NON-ABS. It also comes down to preference some ppl prefer the comfort of ABS some dont, thats your call. Also money (as shown above).

if it something else, i would simply replace it mazda has all the brake lines (atleast from when i ordered them), and master cylinders are readily available (in OEM Remanufactered, from Mazda, etc).

Not ALL RX7 FC's came with ABS, and i am not sure which ones did (i think the FAQ has that information). Personally, i think you should remove it and convert the car to NON-ABS.

I have a pretty pronounced 6 pack that's not from working out, but rather low body fat. :p

I also have a leaky abs pump and I bought a replacement from rishie at autornd. It only ran me 35 bucks. It's used of course, but as far as I (and they) know, it doesn't leak.

question now is, "is it leaking?"

No ABS for me... not for the FCs...

Syncro 01-08-07 02:51 AM

Not all ABS systems are created alike.

The ABS system on the FC is absolute crap and inferior to knowing how to modulate your own brake pedal. The same cannot be said for the ABS system found on... a Ferrari, for ex ;)

Even in perfect working condition, I suspect they still flat spot tires.

Get rid of it.

Its dead weight IMO I ripped my ABS out.

In any FC's Ive driven with fully funcitoning wheel sensors and a properly functiong ABS system, Ive had no trouble at all........maybe you've had duds? :dunno:

If it works, great. If its broken/non-funcitonal, take it out, its a huge PITA to fix.....but if it works and you're not strivign to lose every ounce of weight possible then there's really no reason to pull it.

i took mine out and used the mazdatrix piece. i hate the feeling of abs

junito1 01-08-07 01:29 PM

what mazdatrix piece? Did i make this harder than it should of been? I replaced my maste cylinder and 2 or 3 brake lines from a non abs GXL model after ripping out my leaky abs box.

EXACT same thing/procedure here :)

its the cleanest way to get rid of your ABS... ;) if you go to rip your ABS, get the RIGHT way and do it like me/Starscream...

staticguitar313 01-08-07 01:52 PM

I have had not ABS in any of the three FC i have purchased
1986 GXL
1988 GXl
1991 Coupe w/ Option Package A

I love the non-ABS feel.

513rotary 01-08-07 07:42 PM

I dont have abs, more of a keg, but thats another story, anyway, my FC had it when I bought it, I put 4 pot on it and didnt plug it back in, works fine for me. Till you r going way to fast on a road with wet leaves on it and hit the brakes n they lock, n you slide off the road and skim a guide wire and ruin you brand new front fender n door, but, makes htings exciting!

TonyD89 01-08-07 07:49 PM

I've got abs.

Parts that is. What do you need?

AlexG13B 01-08-07 07:55 PM
