who has electronic vdi and 5/6ports here??

Hey I want to do the whole electronic 5/6ports and vdi trick but need to knwo fi there is a way to rig ti with 1 airpump and rpm switch rather than 2. i already have the rmp switch and am about to buy a small airpump. i planned everything out for the 5/6 ports but recently decided im adding the vdi. So does anyone know how to rig it so they both run off the same pump and open at the right time?

in your case there is no way to get around using 2 rpm switches unless you some how find a way to pick up the ecu's secondary injector signal which turns on at the same time as the 5/6 ports are supposed to (3800 rpm, high load) and use another rpm switch turn on the vdi.

here is how i set mine up on my s5

it uses 2 smaller pumps, but could be done with just one pump (still 2 rpm switches) only the ports will open a fraction of a second slower.

if you aply this to your s4 just use the rpm switch(es) and/or injector signal in place of where i use the ecu output's.

just some ideas for you.

yea thats what i figured id have to do, was hoping for an alternative since rpm switches are 50 bucks.

I just removed the actuators and wired open the ports (the front rotor actuator was siezed)
I dident loose much down low torque to even notice, and since they were never opening in the first place, I gained lots of top end.
I think someone dyno'd it with the port closed, then open and they only lost 4lb of low end torque.

4lb of low end? ahhh... thats a pretty damn hopeful dyno. Dynos I've seen show about a 25-50hp loss under 4k. If you didn't feel much of a loss when you wired the ports open, they probably werent working in teh first place... but then again you said they weren't, so thats obvious.

Keep the acutators working. You'll notice a big difference if they actually work.

My setup is electric pnuematic ports on my s5, works great. 3800 the auxs start to open, and the VDI opens at 5700. works perfect.

How did you do it?

I did this many moons ago when my FC was still an NA.

Was about the same as silverrotor's setup, less I used the stock ecu for actuation points

though I used the same air pump as silverrotor, it eventually burned up, got another, and it did the same thing. Finaly I decided I needed something better. I ended up ripping apart one of those tire inflators and used that. Works great.

I've got electronic VDI/AUX ports, but my MegaSquirt controlls when the ports open! I wont be much help to you :o

What are the triggers you've set up? Strictly rpm or load based?

Tofuball 03-21-05 08:41 AM

Right now it's just RPM based for the standard RPMs. I don't see a reason to make it load based really :/
