White smoke on S4 TII
 

I thought this may be my turbo at first. It seemed the smoke was a blueish white colour. Now I notice it is a very white colour....mayeb a tad of blue, but barely noticable. It happens on deceleration from high rpm's(ex: after i rev to 6000, then drops back down and smokes once it hits about 2000, or after a shift from high revs and start cruising again) When I first got my car it did this sometimes and my add coolant light came on. It magically went off about a month after I got the car, and has stayed off for about 6 months of driving. Now it is back on and the smoke is here to stay it looks like. Could I be burning coolant, or is my turbo fried. I was hoping it was the turbo because I have a turbo upgrade planned for this winter. Maybe I need an engine rebuild instead? Please let me know if anyone knows what this is for sure, and if it is coolant burning, how long do I have before it's time for a rebuild? My engine is apparently only about 20000kms(13000miles) old! Although the seller never gave me a receipt for it. I got a compressin test done no more then a month or so ago and it was 6.9-7.0's on both rotors. The mechanic said that's normal so I assumed the rebuild was indeed true. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Anyone? The car pulls very good btw. I don't notice a real loss in power or anything. The car is stock also, besides exhaust.

Nobody can help? I hate to be the only one posting on my own thread. I did a search and couldn't really find anything similar to my problem. A lot of white smoke on startup problems. One guy posted about removing his airpump and he got the same problem as me. My car never had the air pump when I got it. Someone help!

from what i read white smoke is burning coolant.. have you checked your coolant levels? also have you done the geyser/bubble test?

with the car cold take off the coolant fill cap and start up the car if coolant doens't gush out when you start your' probably in good shape but also look in the fill neck and see if there is a stream of bubbles coming up.. if there is you have a bad coolant seal

does the smoke smell sweet?

like a real wierd smell.....if it does then its coolant....which means most likely but not always...its time for a rebuild

it almost sounds like oil or coolent seals. think about it when you snap the throttle closed from high rpms theres one hell of a vacume in there. that could be enough to pull some oil or coolent past the seals. maybe in the engine or the turbo. pull your ic pipeing and see if theres any thing on the inside of the hose, if there is then its the turbo... if not then its prob the engine.

Once in a while in REALLY cold weather when I start my TII, it let's out this GIANT cloud of pure white smoke until it warms up, and it smells like Barb-B-Q. Don't know what or how, my coolant and oil levels are OK, and it runs great. I'd like to know what it is though.

lol...chicken. K i will take my IC apart today and check that out, and also try starting after that without the rad cap on. And yes, i have checled my coolant levels, and they go down sometimes...my light keeps coming on. Not sure if it's leaking or burning though. Thanks for the input.

Well I pulled my intercooler apart just now, and there is oil in the hoses, and some sitting at the bottom of the pipe at the back of the IC. I cleaned it out and put it back together, topped up the coolant, and started it up. Revved it, and there is still smoke when i rev it above 4500. The first couple revs weren't too bad, but got a bit worse. I guess my turbo is gone after all? Still have to figure out where I'm losing my coolant!
