Where's the Starter? do I have to LIft the Car?
 
Can't see it from the Engine Bay? do you see it better when you lift the car?

its on the transmission underneath the car, you might be able to see it without lifting up the car, but if u want to do any work on it you will need to lift the car up.

the starter is bolted to the tranny and yes you will have to get under the car to see it or service it. it is bolted on by 2 large bolts.

slow crankng is usually coused by a bad battery, not a bad starter. How's your voltage before the car starts. If it's always below 10, replace your battery. It'll only get worse at the worst time, after AAA has refused to tow your car anymore. (I just got that letter)

It really sounds like you need to take the car somewhere and NOT attempt this until you have some more basic knowledge. Slow cranking is a sign of a weak charging system either from the battery, alternator or both. Cold weather doesn't help as it makes both work even harder.

IF you need a starter and try it yourself, please remember to disconnect the battery first!

yeah, it's easy to get to. Top left (facing front) of tranny. And like they all said, check the battery.

Jack up the car and you can find it behind and center of the driverside front tire.

The starter is powered by the battery, all it does is turn the transmission that turns the engine over and turns the alternator to generate electrical current for the engine to fire. If you park facing down hill then you can get everything turning by putting the car in second gear, if you have a manual tranny, and letting out the clutch when you have generated a little forward speed. This is a back up precaution until you figure out if your battery is good, or your cable connection to the starter is tight and clean, and if the ground connection on the starter bolt is tight and clean. This is a fairly straight forward problem to fix.

That reminds me I need to fully charge my battery tonight. I do a lot of short trips in the 7 and usually the battery isn't able to fully recharge from the start load. An occasional charging is good.

Sounds like your alternator isn't up to par. Short trips or not, the charging system should be able to handle it.

Check behind your flux capacitor and below your blinker fluid reservoir. You should find your starter there after you've traveled through narnia. Just kidding. Its really easy to find. Driverside, behind the wheel were the motor and trans meet.

Nope, just put a new alternator on last month. Just checking the charge as a precaution. Went out last night and tried to charge the battery and like you said it was fully charged and wouldn't take any charging. Its good to know that for sure now.
