where to get cv joints for t2 axle shafts
Hello - 1991 t2
currently overhauling my rear suspension / drivetrain, ive got some play in mye cv`s and i see that people have a really hard time finding inner & outer cv joints for the t2 axle shafts, there are som reman products around but mainly for the NA cars, at least what i have found on the web. Anyone in the "FC owner Brotherhood" thats had luck finding these ? thanks! |
No one sells new/rebuilt FC T2 axles anymore, no one sells FC T2 components for axles anymore, your best bet is to rebuild them yourself with new boots and clamps by cleaning them out then, repacking, rebooting and reclamping them that should take out any slop and/or play in your axles as long as none of your components are damaged if they are there's a set of axles for sale in the FC "for sale ads" currently there are aftermarket rear axles available as well but they are expensive, complete rear end swaps are also available

I have gone the course of getting "low mile" JDM shafts and rebooting them. DriveshaftShop.com sells upgraded axle sets with new Porsche style inner joints, but the outers are still the Mazda design. They use all new uprated parts, thus they come with an all new parts niche market price of $2k.

thanks for the input guys! Yup i have also seen the upgraded shaft options at the DS-shop.
What i found is that the outer cv`s from a 1987-1990 Mazda 626 has the same splines 26/28 and the length is just 5mm different from the t2 ones, there is one difference at the area where the wheel seal runs, so one has to use the wheel seal from the 626 hub, it fits in the t2 hub, the difference is 1mm, t2 seal is 57mm inner dim and 626 is 56mm. I`ll give a signal if if worked out using these ones as a replacement, for the inner Cv`s i have not found something that can replace it from another car / model, yet. Alex |

Complete reman Turbo II halfshafts are still available. Napa sells them for $83+core, rockauto also sells them for $98 (includes core)
CARDONE Part # 608025 |
Thanks for info Banzai !
|
This is not true NO ONE sells re-man axles for the FC T2! Many companies list T2 axles available they are not turbo axles they are NA axles!
|
Wrong! I just bought a set for a TII swap. N/A axles have a slightly smaller bolt pattern and will not connect to a TII Diff. Everything about these are brand new.

Can u list which company provided these please, I purchased a set for a T2 from Napa 6 months ago that were for NA not T2, if you purchased them from Napa can you list their part number as well
Thanks |
Did a little research and they are even available at Summit now, but there is a hefty core charge. The Cardone 60-8030 in for the N/A, the 60-8025 is for the TII.

Napa probably got them mixed up and marked n/a axles as tII axles. Sounds like you didn't fight them to fix their fubar and automatically "thought" they don't reman any TII axles
Gotta be smarter about your car than the person behind the parts counter, 90% of the time, they are trained by a computer and have never gotten a lick of grease on their hands, probably don't even know what it tastes like  |
As your FLAP guy (friendly local auto parts), I can attest to this. Most parts guys do not work on cars, let alone make themselves familiar with what else can work when any given part is made N/A.
Best bet is to bring an old one with you at the time of purchase. Or know more than they do. |
last set I got from summit ended up being one NA axle and one TII axle, I think people turning in NA cores caught up they claimed I had gotten the last one and they would not be selling them anymore.
just be sure to check what you got before going forward the part number on both boxes was supposed to be TII axles |
I did a little digging on the TII Halfshafts we recently purchased, they are from a manufacturer named GSP. They are 100% new and we did not pay any core charge or send in any cores. Fitment was perfect.
TII part # NCV47992 N/A part # NCV47990 I just searched ebay with just the part number listed above, the halfshafts are available from $83.00 with free shipping, no core charge. |
Banzai-Racing did you ever compare these axles to OE, are they same quality. Will they hold up as well as OE? Sorry to bring up an old thread but the information I seek is relevant.

So I ordered a set of T2 Rear half shafts from Rock Auto HERI 98558 which stipulate for the Turbo engine. The NA part numbers from HERI are 98100 so they are a different part number. Mine unfortunately were poorly packaged and arrived very damaged. Rock Auto was quick to send replacements, but just to check I took the inner flange and tried to bolt it up to my reman S5 TII Diff, and the flange did not fit. I took it to an S5 NA Diff and it is the NA diff bolt pattern. So there appears to be something incorrect there.
So to be clear the shafts I received were labeled HERI 98558 which on their website as well as RockAuto website indicate for the Turbo Rear differential. But the first set I received the flange was for NA. When my replacement shafts (due to damage in shipping) arrive. I will check it again if not correct I will report to RockAuto and see what occurs. I have also contacted HERI directly to determine if there is an internal error. |
In short as of this date the Rock Auto listing for Heri Rear Half shafts, aka axles have the right dimensions and splines EXCEPT the flange to the differential is NA as they were under the impression that they were the same flange size. I spoke with them, and they indicated they did not have the right flange for the product in the email. I have also informed RockAuto about the error and they are likely to remove the product from the website, so we are without reliable replacement parts for the FC Turbo rear half shafts/ axles.

I ordered a set of the GSP TII axles off Ebay, brand new. Machining quality seems pretty good.
