wheels

I have an 87 GXL with the sock 15in. meat slicers, and was looking to upgrade them. A lot of places have package deals with the tires already mounted and I was looking to do that. My question for you people is that if I go with 17's, what would that do to my handling, and what about 16's, or should I just stick with 15's? Oh, and this is with 205-70-17 or 16, and 205-60-15 tires. Thanks.

the larger the rim...the more power needed to get rotational velocity

I think youre a little off on your tire sizing. For a 17" wheel to be the same overall diameter, you would need 215/45r17,and for 16" you would want 205/55r16. Wheel size is really dependant on what you want. 17" IMO looks the best, but will make your car slightly slower due to increased rotational mass. The handling may be slightly better with a 16 or 17" wheel, being that the sidewall will be stiffer than a 15" would be. Me personally, i used 15" wheels from a convertable , 11lbs each. Great respones with the light wheels, handles great. 16" would probably be the best tradeoff for looks and purpose. www.tirerack.com and www.discounttiredirect usually have some good deals of wheel/tire combos, but if you want lighter more performance oriented wheels you may have to looks somewhere esle, look at name brands such as enkei and TSW, Koing, Volk, etc..

my 87 Turbo II had the 87 GXL rims... i preferred them over those terrible looking 87 Turbo II rims... very nice rims, especially when u put a lower profile tire on em... my rx7 now has a base model skyline rim... 16"

I went with 16's on my GTU, and is seemed to really increase wheel response, and cornering....I found my wheels at www.wheelsforless.com, and tires at www.tirerack.com combined I stayed under 625.00 including shipping (wheels:400.00 tires:205.00)
