whats the safest way
I have removed the charcoal canister from my car and am now wondering how and where i should have the remaining line vent. any suggestions
thanks |
You say "line" but really it is "lineS" there is a nipple on the motor right behind the oil filler neck, and a steel gas line running up right next to the fuel filter.
This topic has been discussed numerous times and nobody seems to have found a really good solution to it. You can search under "charcoal" and find a few good threads. But you won't find a deffinite answer. :) |
I searched before I posted and I found just like you said no definate solution. As far as the oil filler neck cant I just cap that nipple or must I vent that also
thanks |
you must vent the oil fill line.

Why does everyone want to remove the canister? It weighs like 2lbs tops. Is it just for the room or what?
|
How about just putting the canister back? There's no valid reason to remove it. If you are really bothered by it's appearance, chrome it or paint it a pretty colour.
If you must remove it, route the line high up in the engine bay, away from sources of ignition, and put a small filter on it. Then pray the fumes don't cause the car to explode. |

Well, it's different if you remove the spider. :) But the original poster didn't appear to do this, so I didn't think of it...
You really can't run the charcoal canister without the vac spider (at least, not easily). |
I did remove my vac spider, so aaron what do you suggest be capped and what should be vented, or anyone else. At this point from what has been posted (correct me if im wrong) I should cap the line that goes to the fuel tank and vent the oil neck, if anyone has done this and put a filter on the end of venting line where do you have it run to, under the car, right under the hood, under the front bumper?
I'm takin the car to kd rotary soon and I don't want to look stupid by having something hooked up wrong or stupidly. Thanks |
The vent in the oil filler neck needs to be open vented through a catch can.
You might as well just plug the vent from the fuel tank. Don't leave that one open in the engine bay. |
I appreciate your help.
Thanks for finally clarifying this. so ur saying not to use a breather filter then for the oil vent |
Either way. Catch can or breather. Each would work as well as the other.
|
if you use a filter you will probably get oil all over the engine bay. so use the catch can.
