Whats that noise!!!??? tranny or my driveshft or what

ok guyz this is what happened
i had just fixed my car ( radiator and hose and all) , so i was ragging my car a bit to see if it was getting warm or what so

welllater that night i was shifting into 2nd pretty hard and all of the sudden blah tatatatatatat

something happened...... and a noise sounds like its hitting against somethin as it goes around
even when the car is in idle... BUT when i stick in the clutch the noise is gone completely....

do any of guys have any idea what this could be??
i know its not my clutch

im thinking its eiter my tranny or my driveshaft...

any help will really help
thank you

Probably a bad throw-out bearing, or something of the sort.

crazyassrx7 05-11-03 10:03 PM

now my car wont drive though
it goes in all gears but whe i put it like 1st an go it will go a lil and then get stuck if i keep pressin it it will like jump....

i dunno....

Relisys190 05-11-03 10:34 PM

yeah your clutch sounds like it's gone... when i thrashed my throw out bearing i couldnt get into gear. only somtimes and it would make a rattle noise from the tranny when i put the clutch down.. get it checked out... it's your clutch

i just bought a racing beat clutch 5 months pro to that
i highly doubt it could be that

SonicRaT 05-11-03 10:39 PM

It's not unlikely, especially if you didn't break it in properly, or your clutch hydraulics are going bad and aren't working well.

crazyassrx7 05-11-03 10:55 PM

the whole clutch was rebuilt same time as the i got the new rb clutch..... some guy told me it might be my tranny... an hs pretty knowledgeable.... but all he did is check if it was the driveshaft an heard it

crazyassrx7 05-12-03 09:53 AM

anybody have any other ideas or comments????

With car parked, engine running, tranny in neutral, foot off the clutch...
In that mode, the pilot bearing & TO bearing are unloaded. The input shaft & countershaft are spinning.
A steady ticking noise means a possibly chipped input gear.
If the sound stops when you step on the clutch, that will confirm it.

Throwout bearing it seems. Although it could be your tranny. drain your tranny fluid and see if there are any peices of metal in it... the plug has a magnetic tip, so any metal will be caught by it. If you see chunks of metal... hope you have your chequebook handy.

i was thinking about getting a whole new tranny( i can get one pretty cheap) but you guyz think its the throw out bearing or what????

if im in neutral an foot off the clutch yes it does click like something is hitting something right underneath me

but when i rev the engine (foot off the clutch) it starts to click harder and louder, well its always really loud though.....

A good used tranny costs less than a new input shaft.
A short (maybe 30 day) warranty is enough to tell if the replacement has a problem.

crazyassrx7 05-12-03 03:41 PM

what do you mean short warranty????

crazyassrx7 05-13-03 06:45 AM

........

SureShot 05-13-03 07:17 AM

Most used parts places will only give a 30 day warranty.
That gets you a replacement if the one they sold you had a problem.

I broke my input gear about a year ago. I put in a used transmission from a local salvage yard. I still have the old tranny in case it has some parts I need later.
