Question What'ca think, sell the FC for a FD or wait for the '8'?

Torn between continuing to pour money into a 11 year old car, buy a 7-9 year old car and pour money into it or wait and buy the RX-8

I like the looks of the FD but it's tough to think of forking out big cash for a used car with no warrany when the RX-8 might not be that big a streatch financially and it would be BRAND NEW

What do you guys think? Can you convince me to keep the FC...

I would be HELLA tempted to buy a rotary Miata
I already like the body style (kinda 3d gennish), and w/a rotary under the hood, they would be like a miniture 3'd gen.

Get an RX-8 Turbo. Mazda will come out with the Turbo in 2-3yrs, after the Induction of the N/A.

I mean It only makes sense. If they had both options available at the same time than people would buy the Turbo Instead!!!

Keep the FC, you'll miss it.

I started with a 90 GXL, sold it, bought a 93 R1, missed the FC so much, bought an 89 TurboII.

Not to mention the 90 Convertible I had for a while too..

Keep in mind what your ultimate goal is. Do you want ***-kicking performance, like 400+hp? As good as the RX-8 should be, a modded FD will have a lot more potential because it’s turbo’d. Also, most manufacturers become very reluctant to honour warrantees when you start modding new cars, so your performance options with the RX-8 will be limited. However, if you think you’ll be happy with the RX-8’s performance, go for it. Mazda may let you may get away with a few mild mods, and a few years after buying it you’ll be able to go nuts. Of course, by that time, a second hand RX-8 will be a lot cheaper...

As for the rotary Miata, Mazda haven’t said they’d do that. What they have said is that depending on the success of the RX-8 there will quite possibly be a new RX-7 that will be build on a modified Miata platform. So it’s size will in between the Miata and the FD.

i say the rx8 is a great daily beater compared to the FD.

it's practical and gets better mpg.

I keep seeing the occasional CYM FD for sale, they look sooo good, like a miniture race car! I do like the body lines on the RX-8 but it still kind of reminds me of a sedan spiced up to appeal to the sporty crowd...kind of like a Audi A4 or A6, maybe even a bit like a Maxima

Now if they took the Bathurst Type R and dropped the new engine into it, I wouldn't be able to hold back, and there would be no question on which one I'd buy

I'll bet that most of the RX-8 devotee's would buy a brand new gen 3 styled RX-7 with the new engine...

R&T said that the Cosmo 21 has a good chance of being produced, but in pretty low numbers. Not to mention they were talking a $50k USD price tag.
